That is one nice bridge. Great Job!
Looks awsome so far! About the “looking like concrete” question. The only thing I could say is that the color looks a bit too white, (unless it is the camera, or my monitor settings). I have used Polly Scale’s “Concrete” color on a couple of projects and it looks very nice. Again, your bridge looks REALLY good! Keep up the good work!![:D]
Awesome job
i cant wait for the fininshed bridge and layout
keep it up
yeah, I agree with kevn that it may be a bit too white
I love the bridge and the 2-8-8-2
Thankyou guys, I’ll have a look at my LHS for some paint, and mayby a wee boat or two and some fishermen and a bungy jumper and and and…[:D][:D][:D]
Ken.
Wow, now thats a bridge. That will give an impression on the layout. Nice Job Ken
I also love the bridges in the hobby
I was wondering if someone has seen web sites showing how to create ho size bridges I have amased a huge supply of sheet styreen and some thick foamcore but cant seem to find online prodjects that show some technics
here in boston we have the 10. billion project bridge http://www.pubs.asce.org/ceonline/1298feat.html
I dont have I beam or kits to work with but I did spend 400 on air brush equiptment and cant wait to get started
Here’s where the bridge fits in, that’s why it’s freestanding.
Ken.
yes we need more bridge construction
K
show your styreen
GREAT bridge for the bridge lovers club. Thanks for sharing.
for concrete, I paint a base coat of modelflex mopac grey, and use black, rust, and green washes to stain it, followed by drybrushed white for highlites.
Get “Model Railroad Bridges & Trestles” from Model Railroader Books.
Hi Ken,
Great job on the bridge. Don’t know if you have WalMart in NZ (lucky if you don’t, but thats another story). I used a paint from their store called Patio Paint Texturals in the natural sand color. It’s a little coarse up close, but looks good from a distance. You might try mixing some fine sand from one of your beautiful beaches with a latex paint matched to your color choice. Concrete varies in color, depending on which plant made the cement and how it aged, so I think you have considerable latitude in your choice.
Here is one of my bridges which I fabricated the abutment from wood.
This is a scratchbuilt bridge, also wood abutments.
Steve
Ken. That’s one beautiful bridge!
As far as making it look more like concrete, here some techniques that have worked for me:
Paint with Floquil’s Concrete or Aged Concrete colors.
For texture, dip your wet paint brush into Durham’s Water putty (comes in powder form) then dab and stipple the paint on. This will give you a nice “poured concrete” effect.
Scribe cracks and expansion joints using a dull hobby knife (# 11 blade)
After the paints cures, dry-brush streaks of rust/soot anywhere metal and concrete come in contact, such as your support cables and anchors.
Age and weather the concrete with an Alcohol and India ink wash.
Finish up with a mist of Dullcoat.
Here’s a pic showing this effect on my concrete overpass:
