I am an HOn3 scaler and I also collect HO models of Famous Trains. I have collected so far Rivarassios 20th century limited locomotive and some matching passenger cars as well as their Empire State Express, A Bachmann Daylight (I am working on the coaches). I am looking for someone who makes a Broadway Limited “Torpeado” Steam Locomotive. I already have some coaches. Heaveywieght coaches though. But I need a locomotive. Where can I find one.

You’ll need to go to brass for the streamlined K-4. No one makes it in plastic in HO scale. Why streamlined, though? The Broadway was normally handled by non-streamlined K-4’s, IIRC, even after the train was streamlined. A Spectrum or Bowser K-4 will do just fine.

I believe Bachmann and Rivarossi make that model. (The latter coming in a baby or sky blue paint scheme, I think.) Other than that, I don’t know.

The Streamlined K4 wasn’t used very often, I’d use two regular K4’s or a T1.

Isn’t BLI also planning on offering the non-streamlined K4 in their Paragon (super detailed/premium) series? They might also be planning on offering the streamlined version in their Powerhouse (lesser detailed / economy) series. None of this is currently on their website, but I thought I saw these in their catalog. Unfortunately I’m at work, the catalog is at home, and my memory is not always very reliable. LOL I’ll check when I get home, if somebody doesn’t answer more deinitively here first. Bowser, Spectrum, and BLI are all very nice choices, each for different reasons. Enjoy the hobby.

I am aware that it can only be found in brass. But, I am going to find it after falling in love with it in the 3rd Grade from learning curves Torpeado Run book. I have loved streamlined locomotives since I could first remember viewing one on Trains Unlimited. I also saw it racing a GG1 on a Streamliner TV speicial on PBS I think. I am going to post a topic this afternoon on Bachmanns website asking for the streamilined locomotive.
I also plan to purcahes their unstreamlined K4s and A Bowser T1 as my train buddy that moved into my grandfathers trailer park knows how to put togeather these kits. I know that It has been colored in Brionze as delivered and later painted Brunswick Green. I don’t know for sure if the locomotive was ever painted skyblue like illustrated in the Learniing Curve book.
If it was I plan to buy all paint schemes if I can find it. Blue, Brunswick Green, and as delivered Bronze. Before I go Running to Brass I will cheack Broadway Limited and Rivarrisso. I found a website this morining that has old Rivarrasso products, so I will check that. I will keep you posted

I was just on Braodway Limited’s website and yes they do make an unstreamlined K4 but I have not found the Streamlined one.

The streamlined K4’s were not used on the Broadway. One was used on the South Wind and one was for the Spirit of St. Louis.
Oh, well I still want to find the locomotive

I still don’t know if Rivvarisso produced one but on that website I saw a John Wilkes locomotive made by Rivvarisso from a long time ggo as well as some of their old FEF Northerns. But I didn’t fini***he page because I had to make lunch.

The Steamlined K4 Pacific was used on the Southwind and I think that only Challenger Imports produced the Streamlined K4 Pacific to along with the models of the passenger cars. Beautiful models.

The engine I am talking about is engine # 3768 and it was used on the broadway limited because I picked up my copy of The Encyclopeidia of trains and locomotives in search for info on the prototype as I remembered seeing a picture of it in the book. The Design was drawn up by Raymond Lowrey and called the Torpeado. This is the engine I am talking about

I have the BLI catalog in front of me now (it’s a beautiful catalogue) and I was wrong about them possibly offering the streamlined K4. It’s not in there. Sorry about the mis-information. Perhaps their Powerhouse logo put the idea in my poor mind. That logo always kind of reminds me of the streamlined quasi K4 Lionel made in O gage in the late 1930’s or early 1940’s, itself a very nice loco for a tinplate offering. Enjoy the hobby!
