Does anyone have information on the BUC they’d like to share? When I was a conductor for NSRR we used a remaining segment of this road to deliver loads of plastic pellets to an industry in Union, S.C. None of the older NS guys knew anything about it, some didn’t even know what the letters BUC meant, but some said it stood for Buffalo, Union and Carlisle. Would appreciate some help on this.
The correct name is Buffalo, Union-Carolina Railroad. According to the 1928 Handy Railroad Atlas it ran from Pride (on the Seaboard Air Line, about 3 miles east of Carlisle) north through Union to Buffalo. The 14 miles south of Union were abandoned on July 12, 1950 and the rest was sold to the Southern Railway.
