Building a REALLY cheap trussle bridge

Hey gang, just finished my first trussle bridge (5’ x 16"). In response to a member’s previous inquiry regarding what type of material to use when building bridges… I found a great product.

Over the past 3 years I have been collecting old BABY CRIBS along the road sides. While small heads may not like them, I have found the side slots are perfect for trussle building. They look just like ties…and need very little trimming.

I aged the pieces outside for 6-9 months, letting nature take it’s toll. Then, built just the size I was looking for. The end result surprised even my wife… and helped recycle usable material.

Hope this helps those working on a limited budget like me.

Hi there,
It is amazing what can be done with so called junk. Are we talking “Doll” cribs here or the Real McCoy? Sounds interesting. Reminds me of how many times I have seen “Pringles” cans turn into oil refineries or anything else that requires a storage container. Good idea. Later eh…Brian.

What can I use to simulate G scale Pipes, as in a refinery? Do they (anyone) sell anything like it alreay for that purpose. If I wanted to make a trackside oil and gas hub, what might I use?

Hmmmm!!!

A trussle (sic) bridge huh?

You wouldn’t hail from New Zealand originally would you? [;)]

Hi Captain Carrales
Plastruct do a heep of tubing in mostly model sizes and clip on valves.
For larger pipes and things plumbing PVC pipe and PVC electrical conduit
may provide the storadge tanks and bird wire might have small enough squares for your ladders.

For weatheing wood metiond on this thread get some brown malt vineger
and leave some steel wool in it for a couple of months
Then bru***his on the wood like a wood stain but do it befor glue the model together and re do cut ends.
the wood will turn that weatherd grey colour

Maybe, use those grey plastic sink or toilet water supply lines. Maybe even the soft copper lines used on refrigerator ice makers.

Farsid,

A Trussle … would that be a wooden bridge with a hernia?
