Building Downtown Seaview

This is the ongoing project of building the Dowtown Seaview area. The two big industries have been sitting here amd i wanted to get the rest of the area filled in. It started with the idea to add an elevated road with a tunnel behind everything. The tunnel and wall are made from insulation foam.

The next step was to start making the background buildings thst will go along the elevated road and trolley line. These were made using parts from different kits. I spent a lot of time testing ideas before gluing stuff together

I decided to keep adding more buildings. I also wanted a way to have the trolley line go behind everything so i can make it run point to point for more than a couple feet. I found the right walls for my idea in an old Magnuson kit. After thst i remembered my stash of DPM parts so added snotherbuilding behind that. I also added some signs to give it a more finished look.

Wow! Beautiful scene. I like the enlistment posters, but I’m blown away by your brick work. Did you carve that all by hand in the foam with a knife?

The stonework is all foam. I start by cutting the rough shspe with a razor saw. The basic stone pattern is them cut in using an xacto knife. Then I use a broken piece of stripwood to add texture to the foam as well as push the stones in randomly. All the stones around the tunnel portal were just textured and the ones surrounding it were pushed in to make the portal have the raised stones.

Yikes that’s a lot of work but it definitely shows. Real nice work.

Simply amazing. I looked at it and had to call my sister, who lives where we grew up, to ask her if I remembered correctly that there were train tracks up across the hill as well as downtown. I would need to make a hill rather than a viaduct, and I am so impressed by all the tall buildings. Are they all separate, or did you fashion them a block at a time?

I started building them one as a time but as the background fills in I’m gluing them all together into one piece.

There have been a bunch of additions to Downtown Seaview. The first is what is being called Naranjo station due to its close proximity to the Naranjo Garment Company. The station was fun to make. The stone is all a cut from foam and the sub roof was made from a cereal box. I added shingles from Best trains and scratchbuilt a wood platform.

Another addition is this fun building inspired by one of the buildings from the famous Franklin and South Manchester. It started with a block of foam and then i scratchbuilt the rest from wood. The stairs were a pain to build but im thrilled with how they turned out. I still need to decide what business will be here but whatever it is it will be a definite eye catching area

Some of the other additions I’ve made were a bunch more background buildings as well as a car barn for the trolley line. Ive also added the hand carved cobblestone lot for the Eureka Cracker Company and worked on what has become Yarborough Recycling which is where the trolley line passes through the building. I also finished the scenery around the station and added details to the platform. As of now the layout is getting ready to be moved to our new apartment this weekend so work has come to a halt as i pack up and realize how much I’ve bought since we last moved 6 years ago.
