I’m returning to HO modeling after a couple of decades away. I’m planning to develop a layout around logging and mining operations of the late 1800s, early 1900s. I worked from scratch and from kits which required building, not ready-to-roll, in the past. Are there companies which provide kits of this era and type which require some building skills? Thanks Socks
Welcome to the forum and back to the hobby. I am only a couple years ahead of you. I found much has changed and much has not. I have purchased many Campbell kits on Ebay. I also found an old Muir kit that worked. Rusty Stumps has some wonderful new kits. I found their website. There are many others in the Lazer cut field that work. A forum member who goes by Spacemouse also has great experience in that time frame. He will probably answer in due time. I look forward to seeing you on the forum and comparing experiences as you progress.
The two most wonderful changes for me were: 1. DCC with radio, 2. Styrofoam for scenery. The lazer kits are nice, but I still prefer the Campbell kits for building fun and finished product.
Welcome back. Here is a link to www.btsrr.com go to the part Mc Cabe Series, which is a West Virginia saw mill and a lot of associated structures. Joe
