Getting closer to being able to run a train!
Out of curiosity, why did you choose Fastrack for the O instead of tubular? Was it the radii, the look, . . . ?
I have plenty of the original AF Narrow Gauge tubular track. Much of it is in less than excellent condition and I have always found it difficult to work with and hard to keep together. Years ago I bought some Fastrack to use on a display layout because I thought that it would be easier to assemble and disassemble. and because I liked the look. For all of the years (and it was almost 10 years) that I used it on the Blueboard Central I never had any problems with it. I never fastened it down to the blueboard and it never moved or “walked”, and it conducted current remarkably well. I have plenty of it and will use it on the Arrowhead Division.
I also have quite a bit of AF Wide Gauge tubular track, all of it marked for American Flyer, in various conditions. For the time being I will use it on that external route. My plan is to replace it with USA Track with a 5 rail configuration. All reviews that I have heard of USA Track are that it is really excellent. I think it will be fun to have dual gauge operation on the outside track. I just need to figure out how much track I will need and order it once all of the blueboard is in place.
Thanks for asking.

I didn’t know there was such a thing. Sounds awesome!
I have never worked with Flyer NG track; in fact, I have only ever seen a few pieces. The Flyer WG track I have seems to be good stuff, and I haven’t ever had a problem with it. I keep looking for more that doesn’t break the bank to ship, the perennial bummer about buying large heavy pieces of track.
I have a large quantity of wide gauge flyer straights that I got for I believe $20. Most of it is unboxed, but I have two original cartons with some blemishes. I have had desires to re-home the track cartons (with their contents) to a collector who can appreciate them more than me. I constantly live in fear of injuring the fragile boxes any further.
I like the track, it’s nice and sturdy. I also enjoy that Flyer set the track up with 2 pins at one end, and 1 pin at the other. So that in cases of curves, all one had to do is swap the middle pin from one end of the section to the other to swap between a lefthanded and righthanded curve. versus Lionel, where you have to yank and move all three.

I have some mobility issues, so I frequently find myself stabilizing myself with a wall or a piece of furniture or a countertop. I also use a walker or a walking stick. In planning the Arrowhead Central I made sure that I I had space around the layout for a walker (and inevitably someday probably a wheel chair). As I work around the layout I am aways laying a tool or some piece of equipment somewhere. It can be frustrating to make all the extra moves to get what I want. So I did some shopping online and found a small utility cart that I can move around with me from place to place. I have trained myself to put tools etc on the cart. Its a great help.

That cart is a great idea I thought about the doing the same thing .

That cart is a great idea. I need to get something like that. I do have a 4-wheel office chart to ease standing long with my bad back.

If y’all don’t recognize my face you can spot me at train shows because I’ll be walking with my friend “lefty” over there ![]()
I have been working on several projects on the Arrowhead Central at the same time. One of them has been putting up my Glenn Snyder Rail Rax. I have had these for years and can only say good things about them. One of my friends from church has been helping me to get them mounted on the wall.
Rail Rax in our previous home.
Humorous Story
When we were selling our previous home one person who looked at the house offered to buy and remove the shelving through our realtor. My response through the realtor was " Buy the house and I will give you the shelving". At least I thought it was funny.

Looking good! What bridge are you going to use for the gap?
I’m not sure yet. I was thinking of the Lionel Hellgate but its obviously too long and I think that all of the Flyer wooden bridges that I have in storage might be too long as well. I will have to do some hunting. I might even just fill it in with more styrofoam,
This one is packed away at the moment but I’m thinking it might work.
