burlington hobbystore?

trains on brant st. in burlington ont. are they still around ? i could’nt find it yesterday.rambo1…

i’m pretty sure they’re closed.

I had ordered a couple of things from then last year & got a message that they were closing

They moved from Brant Street some time ago. I found listings for them at 3480 Fairview St. (905-637-3721), although clicking on the link provided resulted in “Server not found”. There’s also a listing at 2180 Itabashi Way Building D Unit 2. Burlington, ON L7M 5A5, (905) 637-3721. I have been to this location, although not recently.

Here is, I hope, a map

I used to go to that store (formerly Hutch’s Trains) regularly when it was on the west side of Brant and even after they moved across the street. It was a great store with a great selection and really a nice place to visit. I had heard that the then-owner was having some financial difficulties, and the operation was eventually sold, although he continued to work there. I learned recently that he had passed away.

The new management changed the store considerably, over-organising the shelves and displays and changing the product mix drastically. You’d be hard-pressed to be able to even order a detail part at the new store, let alone find one on the shelf. They also attempted to shift their target market to a more upscale variety, and I haven’t been back. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re no longer around, as that latter address’ web site also popped up as “Server not found”.

Unfortunately, Trains on Brant is no more.

Your best bets in the area are Dundas Valley, Just Train Crazy, and Modeller’s Choice. Credit Valley and CMT are a bit further east but both are worth visiting, as is Niagara Central.

Best regards,

Jason

Thanks for the update, Jason. I thought that their change in direction was a mistake, although that’s a difficult business in which to be, especially nowadays.

I generally shop at Niagara Central, although it’s recently changed hands and seems to be taking a different direction, too. It’s only about 20 minutes away, so I’m there fairly often. I also shop at Just Train Crazy, a small shop only 5 minutes away. Prices here are generally better than at Niagara, and while the store is small, they have a surprisingly-good inventory and seem to be able to get just about anything you’d care to order fairly quickly. As a result, I’m shopping there more often.
