C&O 2-10-4 Locomotive

Did the prototype locomotive have 2 cylinders or three? Can Lionel’s TMCC model chuff rate be adjusted? If so, what is the procedure with the handheld? Thanks. Reed’s Hobbies

I believe the C&O engines were two-cylinder jobs but I could be wrong.

For the Lionel part, you might want to post that on the “Classic Toy Trains” forum, Model Railroader magazine’s forums are more geared towards two-railers. [:)]

You’re right on the money, they had two cylinders.

For anyone who is interested, the question I had came from a repair issue to a Lionel 2-10-4. Turns out that Lionel uses 4 small magnets glued to the inside of the front dirver which trips a reed switch 4 times per revolution. One of the magnets was loose relsuting in 4, 5, or 6 chuffs per revolution in forward and 5 in reverse. Repositioning the reed switch, and re-glueing the magnet solved the problem resulting in the correct 4 chuffs per rev.
