C&O GP-30's

[:)] I just received my Proto 2000 GP-30 in C&O and was looking on RailPictures.net and I saw that some of the C&O GP-30’s had airhorns on the roof of the cab on both sides. I was just wondering why they had two sets. Thanks in advance! Jim

It was a split of a standard five-chime horn brought on by clearance problems–C&O couldn’t put the full set anywhere within its clearance diagram.

Looking at this pic http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=131247 the horns look like those SL-4T’s on the Amtrak SDP40’s… i take it the C&O was a user of the S-5T? Those horns are pretty “chunky”[:D].

OK–I’ve got the book out.

SD60, you got it–those two sets together (S-2A and SU-3B) sound the same chord as an S-5T.
