Someone on here suggested I think lawnmower cables for controlling manual switches in remote locations. Lawnmower cables can get expensive and be stiff. Any other suggestions?
What about bicycle gear shift cables or brake cables?

In the 70’s and early 80’s, I used manual choke cables. Stiff but worked great. Drill a hole in the switch lever, put a bend in the cable end, put it through hole, mount it under scenery or under table with hole coming through at switch, mount it so it is “locked down”, push and pull.
Not sure which thread this adding cables was with, but since I responded the other day about how I liked the small motor added to the 1022 manual switch I will respond here. I have used the choke cables and had it work, but as also said they can get espensive and I didn’t like it that much. I used dual strings too, and that will work. I tried not to modify my 1022s, and the thread that showed the small motor, diodes and lever added to the switch, has got my interest, and I feel a very nice way of accomplishing both non modifying and adding remote to the switch. That is what is nice about this hobby, people can experiment.

I used two fishing lines on the standard O27 manual Lionel switches, and on some manual old Marx O27’s. Worked fine on about 8 of them on a control panel for a 5x9 layout table for over 5 years.
Now that would be interesting. Would love to see more on that.
