California North Bay commuter route lets contract amid controversy

RepealSMART = NIMBY

Not necessarily Mr. Hays- I live in Sonoma County and worked hard in the SMART campaign- but the SMART board has made a lot of expensive mistakes- none of the Board or staff has any transit experience- and alienated many former supporters by their arrogance.

Mr. Cameron should specify what expensive mistakes. They got a great bid on the DMU sets, about 25 million below estimates. They also hired professional rail transit consultants. Their presentations at the board meetings are online.

In California everything seems to take longer, be more expensive and experience more hostility. I was a Santa Rosa to San Francisco bus commuter for years and dreamed of the day when I could take the train to the ferry as God intended.

To be truly useful it needs to extend south of San Rafael to the Marin County ferry terminal in Larkspur or even further to Sausalito. Then they will have managed to repeat the route of the first transit system in the area of 75 years ago!
