Does anyone have the MTH Rail King Camelback…or the Williams brass Camelback? Do you like it. How does it run? Thanks for the input…Tim
Hi PIGSEYES,
I don’t have any of those brands but I do have the Lionel version with TMCC. This was written in CCT and I must admit it is a real good runner. The only thing I wish it had was Odyssey or cruise control because you have to work the trottle every 10 minutes or so, otherwise the sounds and all are great.

I have the early Lackawanna RailKing version. Pluses are: runs super smooth , runs as slow as you want it to (even under conventional), looks excellent for the price point (the Lionel has more detail, but it costs more), the synch of the chuffs to puffs of smoke is absolutely fabulous. The minuses are the oversize tender and I believe Jersey Central ‘styling’. I compared it to the brass Williams version that I could have purchased NIB for $475. The Williams had no more detail and only looked better on the edges where the thinness of the brass looked better than the die cast, and in no way would it run as smoothly or have the Proto2 sound.
pigseyes,
I have the MTH Railking Camelback and it’s one of my favorite loco’s. Way back when I had the PS1 and then when the new one came out in PS2 I had to have it right away. That little engine draws rave comments when I run it and with out a doubt I think it has the best whistle of all the steam engines, very authentic. It reminds us a lot of the Cumbres Toltec sound in southern CO & northern NM. It looks great pulling my logging cars and sometimes a coal car. It looks great running slowly and of course it’s a good smoker.
We made up a gift of my original Camelback and a bunch of Christmas cars for our son in MPLS and he and his freinds think it’s the best, pretty amazing for young cool gals & guys who have never played with trains. Here’s some pics.

Thanks for the input Guys, I went with the Lionel w/TMCC. Had a good price at Grzyboski’s ( 289.95) Nothing against MTH, but I am set up with TMCC and dont want to add any more control systems at this time. Thanks…Tim
