The punishment which the wise suffer who refuse to take part in the government, is to live under the government of worse men." - Plato
Jeaton,
Sorry, but I have to disagree. If we ignored terrorists, they might actually go away??? Buddy, I so wish that were the case. But we have to wake up and realize that the opposite is what is actually true. So many of us seem to be forgetting that these Islamic Extremists are ready to die because they are taught that they will be instantly rewarded in Heaven.
It is senseless to live in constant fear, as mentioned, but it’s just as idiotic to dismiss the idea that these thugs are not going lure us into a false sense of security and then strike, hard. As mentioned trains are incredibly easy targets, however, it’s doubtful they’d want to hit a lonely intermodal train cruising on a mainline. Dense population centers that would attract attention and horror with multiple simultaneous attacks are the more logical choice.
Sorry if I’m over the top…but after we were attacked in Pearl Harbor, we turned a deaf ear to the pacifists and told the enemy “We’re coming to you! You’re going down, fast!”
Looks like we’ve lost the foresight and nerve our grandparents had.
Well said sir!
Rest assured, they will not ‘go away’ if we ignore them. We ignored them all the way through the 90’s and they sure didn’t go away. The terrorists mistook it for weakness.
The real victory for the terrorists is that we lose the freedom to pursue our hobby. And every lost freedom is a victory for those[censored] and this country is losing the war because we cannot fight on and on for a prolonged period of time. Victory in war requires time and sacrifice and the will to win! This died in Viet Nam and will haunt us like WWI haunts the French, and WWII haunts the Germans.

yeah I hear you.
I wish I could compare the mindset of the public at large from WWII to the war on terror today. They are polar opposites. It is almost like no one wants to do what it takes to win. All I hear about are cease-fires, withdrawals, quagmires, and this other ‘we just can’t do it’ talk. You know what we could do to end the war on terror? Win every battle so descisively that there is no question we won. Then some of these dense pencil-necked islamic wannabes would get the picture that yes, we don’t want to be islamic but we are not going to let them kill our children until we do. Game over. Then they can go back to blowing each other up instead of planning to blow us up.
