Can anyone help answer this question on the Lionel 4-4-0 General engine?

Is there any way to keep the gears meshed on a can motored general?

Thanks.

Brian

Brian,
What do you mean by ‘meshed’?

Meshed: engaged, so that the teeth of one gear drive the teeth of the other. My General seems to constantly be jumping teeth in the drive train of gears from the motor to the wheel.

Can you photo? I am not quite getting what is going on. I understand your comment but without more infor or seeing, hard to tell you what to do. Could be several things. I’ve pressed gears back on shafts and super glued. I’ve realigned motors with shims. Would love to help as I am sure lots here want to do. Lots of great “brain power” here.

Is the large gear wobbling on its center pin.I’ve found that if you do not oil the shaft the gear will wear here and run out of round. The gear is readily available from Lionel
