Can anyone recommend a good LHS in Dallas/Ft Worth/Arlington Texas?

Thanks in advance. [:)]

Discount Model Trains.

By all means Discount Model Trains in Addison Tx, (just north of Dallas) Great shop for all scales especially HO and N. Usually about 20-25% off of everything. Large selection of books etc.

If you are a person who is likely to buy trains at swap meets, you might enjoy “Collectible Trains and Toys” (www.trainsandtoys.com). While their selection of new stuff is not great, they have a “back room” with collections they bought up. Much of it is larger scale (Lionel), but when we were there (August 2007), they also had some interesting old HO material. And if you have kids, they have a good-sized Thomas lay-out.

Thanks guys, I will be visiting Discount, I like to browse, and Trains and Toys is all Lionel up front, not sure why the HO stuff is in the back, away from the customers.

Edit: Correction, I see they allow you back there now. Maybe I’ll give them another try.

A train store despite the generic name: Hobby World in Fort Worth. Family owned and run, and a great family it is.

I drove up to Fort Worth from Austin on business, and made my pilgrimage to my old favorite store as I was heading back. A bit of a crowd in there, and they were busy. I said something about being so home sick for Fort Worth that I was going to go look for T&P rolling stock, and maybe a Reefer for one of the old meet packing plants that were adjacent to the stockyards (Armour and Swift) to take back with me.

They have a huge selection in N-Scale, and so it was going to take me quite some time. But it didn’t. Almost everyone in the store heard my comment and dove in to the search, “Got one!” “Do you have this one?” I had five and a promise that “Mike can get it.” for anything else I might want and didn’t find.

That is Hobby World. For that matter, that is Fort Worth and thus, why I am home sick—a friendly, gentle and kind city.

Gonna through in my vote for Discount Model Trains. When I used to live in Lubbock (6 or so hours from Dallas) I would stop at there whenever I was in town (a couple of times a year). Very well stocked and the staff was extremely friendly.

Thanks everyone for the recommendation on Discount Model Trains, great store and friendly people.

I lived in Ft. Worth area for 6 years. Hobby World mentioned above was great for me becaue I am an N scaler, but if you are not into N scale you won’t like it. The guy who owns it runs it as a side business and is part of a large N scale club in the area and caters specifically to N scale.

Discount Model Trains mentioned above is the best model rr store I’ve seen (never been to Denver). Huge selection of locomotives, rolling stock, track, structures, details, accessories, etc., etc., etc. If you need other hobby materials like adhesives or styrene, etc., you might try a general hobby store, but for trains Discount has it all from Z to G and everything in between.

For the General hobby materials like I mentioned above I used to go to Hobby Maker in Bedford, but I read that it went out of business a year or so ago. There are plenty of general hobby stores for these supplies in the metroplex though.
