Can die-cast metal be repainted?

I’ve had good results repainting 2 of my post war steamers. On one I chemically removed the old paint with the application of a product called “SF-77” which I purchase from a local auto parts store. It’ll take about 5 applications, letting it soak for about 15 minutes for each application, then scrubbing it off with a tooth brush, apply more, etc., until all the paint is removed. Rinse it well with hot tap water, which will help it dry, finish drying with a towel. Avoid touching it with oily fingers. I used bargain store satin finish, black rattle can paint with excellent results. Use multiple light coats to avoid runs. The other locomotive I sand blasted with aluminum oxide abrasive using low pressure in my small blasting booth, washing well, then painting with the same type paint. Again with excellent results. Now…keep your eyes pealed for replacement number decals.
