I plan to put a Tsunami in my Challenger. Shouldn’t be that difficult just a simple snip and solder job.

Hard and easy are relative to your skills. I had most trouble just opening the tender to get access, and still put a couple dings in it. The electrical / speaker work was easy (for me).
There have been several threads written up with step by step instructions for doing this exact thing. I believe the most recent one was over on the layouts and equipment forum. Just do a search for “Tsunami 4-6-6-4” or “Tsunami Challenger” and I think you will find them.
Could you come up with a third option???
Railroad,
Do a search on this forum for :“Tsumani Heavy Steam sound decoder for Genesis Challenger”
The title is cumbersome, but I think you will find the information useful.
Putting the Tsunami into this engine made it an excellent running loco with great sound.
I have also placed a DSD-150 in a Y6B (Proto) and have found that to be a very nice match as well. Unfortunately, DSD-150’s are difficult to find these days, although they occaisionally pop up on ebay.
