I have a MicroEngineering Viaduct and my layout uses Atlas Code 100 track. It looks like the recommended track for the bridge is Code83 Bridge Flex Trak. Can it be easily mated to the Code 100 track, or should I look for Code 100 Bridge Track? The Code 100 that I see, the inside rails do not seem too prototypical - ie: too close to the actual track.
I haven’t done so, but see no reason why not. Since the bridge is separate from the adjacent tracks, you can just adjust the bridge height by the bridge abutments. What I have done in many cases is purposely keep the notch, shoe shelf slightly lower than the actual measurements. Shims can be added to align the railhead. You could even allow the bridge code 83 rail to continue out beyond the abutments for added bridge anchoring. Of coarse some thin styrene shim stock will be needed to adjust the rail height.
In this case the plaster castings of the abutment were fit to the bridge shoes before glueing to a wood riser.
This is closer to your installation w/ the ME viaduct, This however has the bridge rails extended onto wood ties for handlaid track at one end and Code 83 Walther’s flex at the other.

Not sure if the thin shims are visible in the pic, but it is just under the bridge shoes. These wood risers will be covered w/ plaster castings to simulate concrete.
You should be able to do that. You’ll need to be careful laying the track, and make sure that you shim and align the tops of the rails for smooth performance.
I was looking for Code 100 Bridge Track about a year or so ago. I couldn’t find any. I think there was only one manufacturer, and everyone was out of stock on that item. So, I made my own by removing the ties from a section of flex track, cutting out the spacers and then replacing the ties much closer. I used some old brass track rails for guard rails.
This section is on an Atlas bridge:
And this section is on a low trestle:
Tedious work. These two sections took me a couple of hours. But, you can sit in front of the TV and do this while you pretend to watch figure skating with your wife. Just say “Nice Lutz” once in a while and she’ll think you’re paying attention.
Walthers Shinohara Track (Walthers Part # 948-897)
From Walthers’ Page:
“Using these transition tracks, you can combine other rail sizes with Walthers Code 83 system to create realistic mainlines, yards and sidings. Each 6-inch track section has a small section of Code 83, combined with Code 100 or 70 track, to provide a smooth transition between rail sizes.”
I have used it with Walther’s Code 83 Bridge track connecting to Atlas Code 100 track with no problem.
Excellent - thanks!
I tried that once and she called me a pervert! I don’t think she was paying attention. [:D]
I actually tried the same flextrack trick on a trestle that is high enough to make it difficult to see the ties in detail. It worked very well. You almost don’t notice that the ties are shorter than usual.
