Hello. I have recently found a photo that shows my great, great Uncle (whom I never meet) on the “Cowcatcher,” to put it as he did when he set the picture years ago, of a Canadian National steam Locomotive, and the Canadian National plate on the front of the locomotive identifies it as #1444. After several searches of the web, I believe the 1444 was of the H-10-a class, or a 4-6-0. I have found other information based on several loco rosters, but never any photos. Besides wishing to find more information and photos, I am also interested in knowing if there are any HO or N scale Locomotives that are any ware near close in construction to this locomotive.
Thank You

As far as I know, the closest match would be Bachmann’s Ten Wheeler, which could be modified to more closely resemble that particular loco. CNR’s H-10-a class (20 locomotives built in 1910 by MLW and another 10 from CLC, all originally for the Grand Trunk Pacific) spent their entire careers in western Canada, with the 1444 being scrapped in September of 1961.
Here’s the Bachmann loco, which I had originally intended to make into a CNR H-6:

According to a diagram I have, they were equipped with slide valves, although they may have subsequently been modernised with piston valves - their operating pressure is listed at 200psi, which, I believe, is a bit on the high side for slide valves.
CNR’s H-6-gs are among my favourite CNR locos and a very nice brass model of them was offered by Van Hobbies.
This one is mine, while the 1533, trailing, belongs to a friend:

There is a picture of H-10-a 1447 in Clegg & Corley’s book “Canadian National Steam Power”, although it would be improper to post it here. It appears to be fitted with a conversion kit for changing slide valve locos to a version with piston valves. I’ve sent you a PM regarding this.
