So, they can send old locos into the US, but new ones have to be compliant? And Canada isn’t requiring tier 4 compliance? Maybe EMD can still sell to CN, CP, Ferromex, and KCS of Mexico.
Pretty stupid isn’t it Landon?
They can send SD40-2’s down, but these ES44AC’s are outlawed because they are T3 instead of T4. I’m not against the improvement of air quality, but the Tier system could have used some work!
Understand the article, which states the series for “export” is 2951-2975. Second unit in the photo is 2948. Both export and non-export units must have shown up together.
So I guess this settles the debate about EPA Tiers applying or not in Canada.
Tiers only apply to units built after the date they went into effect on. Anything built before is exempt.
Will the EPA install huge fans along the border to prevent those horrible Tier 3
wind bourne fumes from crossing into the U.S. ?
Anyone have ideas as to what kind of monitering machinery is in place to tell if one of these “export” units would happen to cross the border into the U.S.? If they did how would the EPA actually find out?
