I usually see CN equipment labeled “Canadian National” (English) but sometimes I see “Canadien National” (French). Is the label on both sides in the same language on all cars? What percent of their equipment is labeled in French?
On freight cars, CN uses English on one side and French on the other for the roadname only.
Most instruction labels (“security device only”, etc.) is bilingual on both sides.
This is not a requirement of all railways in Canada, but a CN practice that developed from its status as a state-run company when changes were being made provide increased service in French from federal agencies nationwide.
