car carriers

How are autos loaded onto train cars? driven on a ramp? what is prototypical? anyone have a layout with one?

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

Good question that I was wondering about as well. Typically they are driven up a ramp that is adjusted to the level of the rack they are loading. Here are a couple of good threads I found that may help:

Greg,

Here’s a link to a reasonably good article on the subject. It’s a big subject; and to a great extent the answer depends on the railroading era that interests you.

Greg,

I also found a good Wiki article on the subject that contains a good picture of a ramp about half way down.
