For those that live in the area, or may be making a trip through the region… this looks awesome, to my knowledge this is the first major improvement to the layout in decades…
If you haven’t been to the Miniature Railroad & Village in a couple years I think you may be in for a surprise. We have added many new additions with last year being one of our most ambitious when we added a new roundhouse, operating turntable and railyard, a tressle, tunnel and elevated track, a replica of Pittsburgh’s ornate Luna Park entrance and the first Gulf gas station. A transformation of about a third of the layout.
Thank you for these positive comments about our new Forbes Field. I hope you all come and see it… it’s been years in the planning and now down to a just a couple finishing touches. I am anxioiusly awaiting our first visitors in a couple days.
[#welcome] to the forum Patty. I have only two wishes. First to see your stadium in person and secondly to be able to “blow up” (enlarge) the photo posted to see all the detail of it. I can only describe my feelings here by the second most famous words in NASCAR- “MAN, THATS AWESOME” Speaking of NASCAR, you wouldn’t want to tackle Lowes Motor Speedway as your next project would you? [(-D][(-D] Although I’m not a diehard baseball fan, thanks for the preservation in miniature of your city’s history. Ken
Thanks for the warm welcome! I look forward to chatting more! This was a long and challenging project for sure, but extremely rewarding. I also took photos all throughout the construction of FF. As soon as I get organized I hope post them online soon (hopefully over the weekend.)
Whew, it took me a while to learn how to get a few photos uploaded then posted of my model of Forbes Field at the Miniature Railroad & Village. For anyone interested, these scan through the modelbuilding process from near the beginning and end with the finished peice, including the outfield brick & ivy wall that wasn’t finished for the newspaper article. The outfield wall is made from brick from the actual Forbes Field outfield wall… a way of including a peice of real history.
It was hard to pick which to post, each show a different detail.
For any Pittsburgh area TCA members, we are hosting our 2nd annual Fort Pitt Division Tin Plate Talks (holiday preview) this upcoming Friday evening (Nov.30). It was great fun last year, and everyone is invited to bring an engine to run on our layout!
Patty,
Thank you for posting the pictures! What a WONDERFUL display of modeling ability. I hope I can get to the CSC this coming weekend while I’m in town.
Love the pics of you in ‘mini’-Forbes Field! Excellent way to show the scale of the building.
