David, I have never…and I mean EVER!..placed a silicone cartridge in a caulking gun and ruptured the rear seal because I forgot to pierce the seal in the nozzle. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
I did the exact same thing about 6 months ago - I just kept squeezing and squeezing - then I felt something give. I looked down at the spout - nothing??? I tilted it upand looked in the hole. Suddenly, my hand was covered in a big gooey slug of silicone - yuck!
Yep,
Happens to me frequently. Caulk drys up in the spout and I try to clear it by sticking a nail down the spout, then I get frustrated and then I try to force it by squeezing really hard and then the caulk bursts out the back. Arrrg. Happens too when you leave your caulk out in the van overnight when the temp goes below freezing and you try to use the caulk and it bursts out the back of the gun.
Been a painter tooooo loonnngggg. Least I don’t have to smell those oilbased paint fumes anymore. Ahh latex, acrylic, waterborne paints, wonderful!
David,
You impressed the heck out of me with your Article in the May 2004 issue of CTT - a cover story no less!
Then you go and do something like this. How could you not check to see if the tube of caulk had an inner seal?
I’m very disillusioned, David. I guess we are all only human. [;)]
Jim
PS - All this talk of you sqeezing your caulk, sqeezing your caulk even harder, and your spewing caulk is a little risque, don’t you think? Kinda gross. [:0][:D]
David, I have done exactly what you and Paul mentioned. It happened when I was caulking down roof tiles. I had an old Thomas the Tank engine backpack full of tubes which I was tossing off the roof as I finished them. Had to get a new gun because the caulk was everywhere.
I have had this happen too, I need to caulk the side windows on my boat. I had the caulking gun loaded with 5200. I could not get the caulk to squeeze out. Gave it a real hard squeez and the rear of caulk tube ruptured. 5200 was every where cloths, boat, dock, by the time I got to the rear deck it was everywhere. I spent 3 hours cleaning up the mess and had to go to the store and get another tube. What a time to have a brain blow out
