I am working on some ideas for my next model train layout. Did the CB&Q or BN interchange with the GTW in the Chicago area? I looked at some railroad maps on TRAINS part of this web site and could not conclude if they did or not.

I would have gotten back sooner, but had to do some research. According to an article in Trains, The GTW interchanges with CB&Q trackage directly near Elsdon. GTW also uses Indiana Harbor Belt and Belt RW. of Chicago yards (co-owner). There was an article in Trains on interchange tracks owned by the CN (who own the GTW, and the IC along with almost everything else it seems[(-D]). The IC also has a yard nearby. All these possibilities relieve the congestion around Chicago. A good source of info on the GTW is from the historical society located at the Durand, Mi. depot. Hope this helps. Gerry S.
