CEBX 800 SCHNABEL CAR KIT

Hello all,

While surfing e-bay,I came across a resin 36 axle schnabel heavy transport flat car. I tried using …tiny URL,so the URL wouldn’t be so long , but it didn’t work. You’ll have to type in Schnabel in HO scale section. This car is the largest car in North America, built in Germany and shipped the north america. According to the kit designer, resin frame construction and no trucks or couplers. I’ll be adding this kit to the Chrismas wish list…saved in favorites for the wife to see. I’ll see if I can post a photo of CEBX 800,for all to see.

Do you think that the hydraulic offset could be done with DCC?[:-,]

Nice pics! [:D]

On their website it notes that you should have curves with a radius of at least 30" to be able to use the car. I assume that is with the load, which of course is extra (as are the trucks & couplers).

The prototype cars have hydraulic systems that allow their ends to swing one way or the other so they will clear lineside items. Since the model can’t do this, you would need to have everything on the inside of s curve at a minimum distance away from the track so it would work. Can’t really see the big deal about having such a car, it being so specialized.

I saw the Ontario Hydro Schnabel car here in our port city some years ago, and took some photos of it. Sure was huge! But way beyond my desire to have one. I did scratchbuild a long depressed flatcar owned by CN - it was only 120 feet long!

The firm auctioning them lists them on their website, $120.00 less trucks and couplers, and load: http://con-sys.com/Index.htm
