Changing Engine Number 3 on QSI Quantum Sound Equipped Locos

Hi Guys,

Yesterday I mentioned that I had installed my Lenz DCC set-up so that I could hear the sounds from my QSI Quantum Sound Equipped Locos in full DCC mode! Really awesome.

Yesterday I started with the BLI SP Cab-Forward and today tried some BLI E-Units as well as an Athearn Challenger. Using Engine Number 3 eveything worked perfectly so I decided it was time to change the Engine Number to the actual Road Number of the locomotive. This is when the problems began.

Followed the Lenz instructions to change the Engine Number (or locomotive address as they call it in the English English manual!!) and everything went fine until pressing the “Enter” button and got the error message “a power overload was detected”. This happened on all the BLI/Athearn locos I tried. I then repeated the exercise with an Atlas GP38 and that worked (although the motor whines until the model starts moving - is this another problem??)

Reading another thread about changing the Engine Number on QSI Quantum Sound locos it gave the impression that this is somewhat difficult to do. Is there anyone out there who has achieved this feat using Lenz equipment who can tell me what to do? Look forward to hearing from somebody!! Thanks guys,

Hi Keith, I see you have a Set 100, are you programming on the main or programme track?
If you use the programme track it’s alittle underpowered and displays a fault.

I’m currently using the Lenz Compact ( I have a set 100 on the way ) and a powerpax from tony’s train exchange and it solved the overload problem.

Program each unit separately on the main. The sound units draw too much current and don’t leave enough voltage to program on the program track. Also do your consist on the main. I love my pair of BLI E-7’s and am waiting for my NW2 switcher.

I have a Lenz set 90 & have sucessfully programmed BLI & Atlas QSI sound decoder locos. I Installed a 10 ohm 1/4 watt resistor in series with one of the programming track leads - a solution that I’d seen a while ago on this forum. Hope it works as well for you. Ted
