Cheap Trick

I purchased this Ameri-Towne building front years ago. And I did’nt want to pay OGR the bucks for the three other walls. I cut out some black foam board(Office Depot) and slapped on some spackling. I then used some wood stain (Minwax Jacobean). Then I started drinking beer and singing. My dog hates that crap. I hope this tip helps you out. [:)]

Great job. Looks super.

Someday I hope to give kitbashing a try. Could only imagine the time it must take for building some of these.

Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for the tip. The best part about doing it your way, it you can vary the depth of the building to fit a specific tight spot on a layout.

Another four thumbs up posting. [tup][tup][tup][tup]

photo of your building: GREAT!

Photo of dog howling while you sing? PRICELESS!

great job

highrailjon,

Building looks great. The telephone pole also caught my eye, the steps are an added touch. Are the poles scratch built or does someone make some that look that real?

Thanks guy’s!! Here’s a shot from the North side of town. As you can see the “city” is still under construction, but what fun one step at a time.[;)]

jefelectric, I purchased the poles from Dave and here is his webpage:

His prices a great!! They come in many styles, and a pre-stained so you can “plant” them when they arrive. I took the time to add a bit more weathering to them. I just spray painted the poles flat black and dry brushed on a mixture of acrylic brown and white against the wood grain. A very simple but effective touch.[:)]

JON,
Great job!
I thought you were talking about the BIG HAIR band of the late 70s and early 80s?

I thought I was, too!!![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Looks good Jon… nice layout too by the looks of it!

My layout being smaller is a little more limited, so I’ve been practicing the concepts you have done here Jon. I’ve taken many of the cheaper types of buildings and done things like adding a second floor to a Plasticville Fire Station or making many modifications and changes to the K-Lineville Factory to make it look loads better. Or turning a Plasticville Gas Station into a freight/shipping office - and after all haven’t real out of business gas stations been turned into just about anything and everything???

By the way, although I’ve never signed up I have to say I’ve been reading your humorous asides on the MTJ forum for a long time … there are times you guys over there have had me in stitches from laughing so hard. I know some of it might be considered a tad mean spirited by some, but I’ll tell you - there are times I really need the laughs you guys provide. The first time I read the North Korean references, I couldn’t stop laughing. You guys are all a real hoot over there!!!

I like the result and the layout from what I can see is interesting.

brianel027, You’re buildings sound unique as well!! Sometimes its just a matter of getting the courage up to try something different. And as for forums, I think both are a hoot, I enjoy stopping in and checking things out here, as well!!![:D]
