chicago main line conrail running on 2 or 4 tracks?????

Did conrail run trains on 2 or 4 tracks on the chicago main line from selkirk NY to Buffalo NY???

That particular main was equipped with CTC and reduced to two tracks while it was still part of New York Central.

And with the way things have ben going lately, we wish they hadn’t taken those two tracks out. An interesting aside: NYC had the double tracked West Shore line running across New York from Selkirk to Buffalo, so there were in fact SIX tracks from Selkirk to Buffalo, prior to the mid 50s, when the Pearlman reductions began.

I thought the West Shore Line was the line between Weehawken and Albany on the “west shore” of the Hudson. [?]

Yes, and it continued across New York to Buffalo. PRR and the Pullman company successfully forced the Vanderbilt interests to buy it at a profit for Pullman and PRR. It also ended construction of Vanderbilt’s revenge, the Southern Pennsylvania RR.
