Chicago South Shore & South Bend fans...

Actually, single-hood cars are fairly common nowadays, and there are plenty of railroads out there owning cars whose hoods could probably be exchanged with these (unfortunately).

The single-hood cars are shorter than your typical double-hood car (42 feet inside, vs. 49 feet).

I would really enjoy seeing a South Shore hood on an EJ&E coil car or a CSX coil car (C&O used to have 94% control of South Shore).

Couldnt get the builder of the trucks, but the are not ACF trucks.

And, just to let you guys know, car 2183, and 2185 have both been tagged with graffiti on the hoods, and both have beem damaged at the load/load out, someone hooked a cable onto the hand holds on the sides to pull the cars, instead of using the bracket on the side designed for that purpose.

Thanks, Ed! This was very helpful.

I think the news about these cars is great. Sorry two were damaged.

I didn’t know that the South Shore frieght operation was still using the traditional logo with the traditional orange. That is just great! Always was a great logo with a slight resemblence to what the North Shore had. Hope they continue to use it forever.

I understand the passenger operation is short of cars and the IC/METRA cannot lend any because they are qlso short of cars. Lots of standees and standees on commuter trains = comlaints, not like light rail or subways.
