Interesting, the Chinese build a railroad half a world away, and we don’t build a pipeline in our own country!!
How does Chinese Accounting Standards compare to Generally Accepted Accounting Principals?
Geoff:
Methinks they use a differant version…
Wow. 75mph speed limit!..how long will that last? 2 to 3 weeks?
This is where it is: http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/infrastructure/single-view/view/nigerian-coastal-railway-framework-agreement-signed.html
Maybe we could get them to build one here?
Signing a contruction agreement with what would barely pass as a Preliminary Engineering Report in the US for the project is very risky. Fortunately, they padded their bid at over $15MM per mile, unless there is operating equipment included that isn’t mentioned in the article. Somehow, I don’t think Nigerian or Chinese labor is that expensive.
The level of Chinese investment in Africa is remarkable. Access to strategic minerals and oil is the goal. I forget which country, but the Chinese built one of those huge city developments, with no one living there. Yet. Sort of makes you wonder what sort of recolonialization might take place.
A snippit in the local paper read: ". China has plan to build a high speed rail line from China to the US via the Baring Strait with a 200km tunnel and a lot of Island hopping. Dream on China I doubt if the US would allow that, imagine all the illegals that would find a away in to the US. And at what expense? Have they considered asking the US.

The United States needs to develop high speed rail in our own country. China spends a few billion in Africa and will reap several hundred billion in natural resources from that area.
The Chinese do not have to contend with the likes of the EPA and other legal niceities imposed on railroads in this country… They should make a profit on the deal and build a good railroad too. They obviously know how.
One wonders about the quality of the roadbed/track/bridges with the cheap labor.
This news speaks well of Chinese foreign relations. It appears beneficial to both countries. Just another bit of news indicating China’s foresight and continued rise worldwide.
