Chinese Steam Locomotives

Many questions re: the location of these 2 elusive engines, can anyone answer the following questions.

  1. Where are they going?..
  2. Where are they now?..
  3. Are they new or used locomotives?..
  4. What will be their purpose in the U.S.?..
  5. When will they arrive at their destination?..

They are going to the Iowa Interstate RR.

They were delivered to IAIS.

They’re used engines, built in the 1980s.

IAIS will test them in freight service until somebody (most likely a tourist line) buys the engines.

They are at their destination. (western Illinois)

  1. the IAIS yard in Illinois (the city is elluding me…i think it’s Rock Island)
  2. the IAIS yard in Illinois
  3. I’m pretty sure they’re used
  4. the IAIS will run them in freight service, but hopes to sell them to a tourist line
  5. they’re there!

Actually they are going to the IAIS shop in Council Bluffs, IA for unloading and setup.

Thanks, great direct answers, enquiring minds, you know.

Huh? Someone mentioned in another thread that they were already unloaded and on the rails in the Rock Island railyard… and other info that I’ve been privy to indicates that they’ll be pulling trains from there to Homestead, IA and back.

blhanel is right…look at the first couple pictures here to see that they are in Illinois http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php
