Christmas layouts - post your plans, progress and pics!

Close to 3a.m. Christmas eve day 12-24-05 and the Christmas layout is complete. Take a look -

DAD, I want a train!!!

Christmas layouts still up? Lets get some new pictures up.

I posted mine in another thread, but here they are:

The overall layout:

The three trains:

The elevated trolley:

I’ve got five tracks running - an MTH Santa handcar in the front, an MTH PS1
Hudson pulling 10 Christmas cars plus a Christmas caboose on the outer
loop, an RMT Christmas Beep pulling three Christmas cars plus an RMT
Christmas caboose on the middle loop, the 0-6-0 Lionel North Pole Lines
Dockside Switcher pulling 5 Christmas cars plus the North Pole Lines
caboose on the inner loop, and the Lionel Christmas Trolley on an elevated
line going around the back of the tree.

I sometimes switch the MTH Hudson for my 1952 Lionel Turbine.

Just realized that these pictures were before I got everything hooked up. Time to take a couple of fresh ones.

I’ll try to get some pictures tomorrow afternoon. The layout will probably come down on Monday.

The Christmas layout is no more. Just the memories. Man was that a quick Holiday season.

Just took my layout down today. It was just the Polar Express set with some extra straight thrown in to give it more surface area away for the tree. With out the extra, the tree pretty much swallowed the whole layout.

Looking here, I did get some great ideas for next season.[tup]

How I know why people never want Christmas to end…For the Train Layouts!!!
Great pics
Thanks[^]

I told myself it was just for the holidays… Built November through Christmas 2005. A lionel dealer display inspired layout called the
‘Elizabethport Loop Line’ (pun intended). I did not finish all of the wiring so I guess I will have to keep it up.

re-do of first picture

First time there’s been a train under the tree since I was 8 years old. [:D]

Hi All,
Just got back to the UK from Florida. Spent Christmas in the States.
Wanted to make it a super Christmas for my son Charlie (age 7). Santa brought him a
Lionel Santa Fe Fast Freight Set and a few extras. Many thanks to all those who conspired with “Santa” especially the guys and gals at Grzyboski’s Trains in Pennsylvania. Can’t recommend them highly enough for service and great gift wrapping.

We were staying at the Hilton in Walt Disney World, many thanks to the manager who
let Charlie take over a (large) bit of the lobby mezzanine for Christmas Day to set it up.

This was the first time I had seen a Lionel train in the metal (I had Hornby as a kid).
The quality is top notch, just fantastic stuff!
Nothing quite prepares you for the size of a Lionel train. The first present Charlie
opened was the 2005 Holiday car, his face was a picture as he realised how big just
one box car was!

Have found that we have a Lionel service centre here in the UK so my guess is
the layout will expand around Charlie’s Birthday.

Best Regards
Nick

In addition to reestablishing my roadbed down to bedrock (it disappeared in the clay); I’m also busy corrugating pop cans for a dog step leading outside from the dog door in the window that will double as a train industry in the toy train garden

Hey Dave…neat idea …can’t wait to see a picture.

Think about this today:

“Corrugate…Corrugate…Another Day of Canning”

Ours is still up, including the tree(artificial). We had family coming in from the east so we are having a late Christmas with them. Not that I’m complaining.
