Cleaning a Bright Boy track cleaner

What do you do when they get all gummed up? I know how to clean a file–but can these be salvaged after heavy use? Hate to go to the LHS for such a small item. Any tips?

Found ‘search’ works well for this issue previously addressed.

Liquid dishwashing detergent, an old toothbrush, and a lot of scrubbing.

Like most ereasers, it can be cleaned by rubbing. My facia is masonite so I rub it on the back of of the masonite and it cleans it right up. A finer grade sandpaper will also work.

Actually I don’t use them for track cleaning anymore, gleaming or cleaning the rails with alcohol and applying 2-26 is easier, works better and lasts longer.

Not to mention that it’s easier on the rails.

Jeffery is quite right.
The last time I used an abrasive track ereaser, I believe it was a Perfect brand, was during gleaming. The ereaser was 240 grit, so I used it as a first pass, rough clean, followed by 400 grit, followed by 600 grit, etc.

Tilden, I’ve heard of gleaming and using alcohol, but what is 2-26? Thanks, Mike

Mike,

I don’t have the can in front of me but it is basically an electrical cleaner/lubricant. It comes in a small aerosol can with white printing on a blue background. I purchased mine at Home Depot in the electrical section. CAUTION it is not easy to find and can be overlooked easily since it is usually in a small box on a lower shelf.
Placed on a motor’s communicator, it seems to have the effect of quieting the motor down and reducing current draw. It also seems to improve electrical contact on the rail, used sparingly. I spray some on a bit of cloth and wipe it on clean track.
ANOTHER CAUTION. The use of 2-26 has been discussed on the forum with no consensus on how or if it works and its longevity.
My experience, it works, I use it, I don’t argue.

It’s made by CRC company. They’ve been around for years and make a large line of excellent products. I’ve used them in my electrical business.

I went to Home Depot and got another can of CRC 2-26. I noticed CRC also has a de-greaser, a contact cleaner and duster cans.

Thanks for all your responses! Will try the sandpaper suggestion first.
