Clinchfield RR layout

I would like to recreate MR’s project layout, the Clinchfield Railroad. I have looked through the back issues and not all are available. Is there any way to obtain all the issues from this project layout without buying the 75 year DVD set?

The articles were collected into a book that is available used.

Railpub has many back issues (and perhaps, copies of the Clinchfield book)

Although the Clinchfield series was unique for its time and really served to put N scale on the map, in most spaces where that layout would fit, you might accomplish more by designing to fit the space.

Here’s Modeling the Clinchfield content. At the time – It was “huge!” This layout also pioneered the use of foam for scenery, etc. – To provide a lighter benchwork for shows.

I used to date a fine lady that hailed from Kingsport TN and gained some familiarity with the Carolina Clinch (as the locals called it), albeit it in its CSX form. While the project layout is a neat one, and innovative for the day, I’d agree that you can do the region better justice in a different form and design. Vertical scenery is the key and an island limits that quite a bit.

The N Scale Clinchfield is still a impressive layout that looks and operates better then some of the so called modern designs and the layout has been upgraded to DCC.

The Nov/Dec N Scale Railroading magazine featured a fantastic article on the Clinchfield layout with track plan.

While the 75 year CD may seem expensive, I found it to be worth the price.
