Close call at crossing

this was off of a local news paper The Daily Freeman: Four occupants got stuck in a path of an approaching train in Midtown Kingston and escaped without serious injury saturday night (8/27/05), fleeing from the doomed vehicle as the crossing gates lowered, authorites said. The car, disabled on a portion of tracks off a roadway near the Foxhall Ave. crossing was destoryed. The CSX freight train was not damaged in the 11:37pm accident and none of it’s crew was injured, the railroad company said. No injuries to bystanders or damage to nearby porperty were reported. The driver of the car and two passengers, however, were treated for injuries sustained when the vehicle crashed onto the tracks

Crashed onto the tracks? Sounds like somebody was [censored] around way to hard.

Allan.

Crashed onto the tracks and then almost hit by a train… thats a new one on me.

Maybe they were trying to coax the train back onto the tracks, since so many people accept the notion that trains can “come out of nowhere.” [:(]

At least it was more farce than tragedy . . . THIS time.

The driver was charged with traffic violations of failing to keep right, driving on the left side of the roadway while approaching a railroad crossing, and operating out of class.

He’s lucky, it could have been worse. Back in the 80’s a drunk driver crashed into the tracks by Palmdale and knocked the rail out of guage. Then the BKDOU (the cans) came along and most of the train ended up in a pile of tank cars and spilled oil. That was one spendy auto accident, WAY beyond the $15,000 min PL & PD insurance requirement in Calif.

Makes you wonder if any other substances were in the driver’s body…hmmmm.

It was a two unit train carring general merchandice from Hamlet NC to Selkirk… it was only delayed for just one hour due to the crash… The train had 83 loaded cars and 50 empty cars… And unsure how fast the train was going. The tracks were undamaged
