[bday] Zeke, Us guys on the left coast ALWAYS get the last word in. Thats quite a life you have had in your first 30.
[#welcome] Mistyk11 Another left coaster, whoa that’s 2 in two weeks visiting the pot. Come back often! Thanks for the heads up regarding the legality of the horns. Now to try and teach discretion.
John (CSXT30) Thanks for all the great ideas regarding the horns. It really helps. NOT !
I can just imagine all the neighbors complaining already. And it will be interesting how long it will be before he gets a ticket. I’m sure he would be above suspicion in the El Camino as inconspicous as it is. I have to admit had a set of CO2 horns on a truck when I was his age. but times they have changed.
I know Doug and Roy are probably getting a kick out of this, after all the bragging I did about how easy it is with a boy as opposed to a girl. Paybacks are always around the corner.
Keith - Thought about you earlier I was putting stuff away from all the painting and stuff we have been doing, came across about 6, 3 Stooges Tapes I didn’t know we had. So a Stooge marathon is definitely in the future on our layout.
Dennis - Hope your loss is overcome painlessly as possible. I think you handled the whole thing correctly!
John (jefelectric) That Railfan Excursion really sounds good. Not to bad on the price either considering everything that you get. That will be a rather nice Birthday Present. The only thing that would be better wo
Zeke - [bday] Sounds like you’ve done a lot of living in 30 years. Every day can be a new begining.
John - Rather than the air horns what about the old ah-ugh-gah horns? Maybe some of Southern friends would like a horn on General Lee? Then of course there was the Beep Beep horns on the Mopar Roadrunners.
I won a 600 All Aboard Set on the bay. I’ve been trying for a while and got one at the price I could justify. It’s pretty neat. Gilbert had a great idea, just too little too late. It is 17"x17" panels that connect with track to form an instant sceaniced layout with houses roads trees etc. Next few days going to be busy but I hope to get it together and some pictures by Sunday to post.
My Mom hit the big 90 on 5/3. She went to the hairdresser and got a Perm, then spent the rest of the afternoon shopping for the latest styles in fashion. She does think some of her Doctor’s have not aged well though. It must be an attitude thing.
sorry i didnt mean to rant i just been struggling this last 9 months since i been discharged from duty…never ever thought that would happen…
well i tried the ole 1060 tonight and it is a dud…moved for like 2 inches then nothing…i cant say if its the engine or my track since its so rusty…although i did clean it to a shine …sorta…well i guess i will have to find some new track to be sure if its dead or not…you know i really didnt think this was gonna be so hard …but i guess when you by used…you dont know what your delt at the time unless your a veteran at it like most of you…so now my search for track begins…gladly accepting donations [swg] b day present? lol
i think my b day will be alright…dont have any plans…probably just sit around the house…
Morning everyone. Supposed to be gorgeous here weather wise for the next few days.
The interview was OK. I never have had an interview where I walked out saying “Wow I nailed that.” Yesterday was no exception. It wasn’t terrible and I knew everyone on the interview committtee very well so that helped. I should know by next Wednesday.
[#welcome]Zeke, Misty, Sir James [#welcome] also [bday] Zeke [bday]
and welcome back Ken - Haven’t heard from you in a while. Where did your daughter end up deciding to go to school? I remember you were on the great college search tour a while back.
Well I better go start a fresh pot of coffee and then get to work. Another interesting day awaits.
Good morning from New England and happy birthday to Zeke.
I took my 2018 apart last night and briefly got it running again. But then the wife came down stairs to wrap birthday presents and naturally assumed I’d like to help.
It is a sunny 50 degrees. Going up to a sunny 75 today. No rain today. This looks like the beginning of another beautiful day.
Today, I will be outside all day again. Need to mow the front yard and hill. Front needs to be trimmed good. I will be busy. Probably, no time for trains. I may take a break, later, and run them for a short break. I have a few ideas, I’d like to try on the scenery.
**Buckeye…**Hope you are catching a lot of fish. Enjoy.
Dining Car is ready and waiting. No word from " points west " yet. Must be sleeping late, or posting at the same time that I do. …OK, time for breakfast.
It is cloudy/rainy/cool this morning in SE Indiana with the temps in the 60/70s today. I watched the tape of the IRL race from Kansas on Sunday (Got Milka?) I also watched a HS softball game and went for a walk with the wife. Lucas is in the high school musical this weekend as one of the extras. We are going tonight because Saturday will be the last show (thank heaven) directed by the current music teacher, and there will be all the tearful faking of farewells then (tell us how you really feel, Mike). “Spiderman 3” opens this weekend and we hope to see that sometime. Dining car is headed to “Points East”. I hope everyone has a good day.
I have good news. If the 1060 moved two inches, then it most likely has some life left in it. Have you put some grease on the gears and some oil on the axles? Just a little is all it takes. You especially want to go easy on the oil. I’d run the engine connected directly to the transformer (no track) for a while to get the motor used to running again. It’s easier on the motor if all it has to do is spin its wheels at first. Once the cobwebs are out of it, it’ll have enough power to move itself and some cars.
That’ll also give you a good indication of how bad the track is. If it runs fine connected straight to the transformer, you know your track is the problem. But it could be that once the loco is used to running again, it’ll be able to run even on less than perfect track. I got started with my dad’s stuff a few years ago, and it was in as poor shape as the stuff you have. It took a while but it’s all working now.
Dave, I admire your tenacity about going to yard sales. Last summer I tried going around looking for old trains, and all I came away with was a lot of wasted gas! I stopped because it wasn’t worth it.
I doubt yard sales would be that productive for my down here. Not many into O and the only train related items I have seen were HO. With the distance between homes here, it would take a good bit of gas to make more than a few stops.
John, my dad gave me his trains. He does enjoy playing with them, he just has not had the time since I was much younger.
Zeke, I emailed you, I need your mailing address to send the Greenberg’s manual. I am sure it will help with your train repairs and operating. What was your MOS, I have many friends still serving. One was to go back this month, but they changed his orders and he will be going back in the fall. It is hard for the families too.
May everyone have a good weekend. I am on call for awhile, so not sure how much train time I will get in. I am heading in later this morning, but for now, I am home with the kids. Like a hockey goalie, I just kick’em back into play…just kidding.
Before I go, Jim and others interested in C&O, the Train-Station auction has a hudson and passenger cars up for auction this weekend. The good news, is that they have quality items, the bad, is that folks know it and the prices usually are right in market, not huge discounts, but I have gotten some good deals.
Off today for Prom. Got to get lots o work done, flower bed got to be edged and then mulched, grass cut , pond filters cleaned. Then maybe run trains tonite for some R & R.
BRENT nice house.
ZEKE [bday], hope you get some train stuff?
BUCKEYE, good luck fishin, watch out for my BEAR, he likes fish[dinner]. What kind o fish you goin after?
Jim, I’m like you. I’ve never had any luck at yard sales. Never saw the first train. Bought a shovel once for $2. The handle promptly broke the first time I used it.
Off to Birmingham tonight. Our son is receiving an award and an additional scholarship from the UAB Business school this evening. Then up early tomorrow morning for Prattville’s CityFest - kind of an arts & crafts festival downtown. Our church has a tent where we pass out free bottles of water, a brochure about the church, and pre-register kids for Vacation Bible School. Lots of fun!
Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where I am looking forward to seeing Spiderman Trey tomorrow afternoon with the 4 yr. old, then host a bunch of my daughter’s high school friends who suddenly decided they want to barbeque. Guess that means I’m on the hook for meat and drinks. Well, I’d rather them be over here where they can be watched than somewhere else.
Birthday Felicitations to Zeke - thank you for serving, man!
Sounds like fun, Dr. John. Never had much luck with yard sales either - my bride says we’d just be buying someone else’s junk. Jim doesn’t need yard sales - he has too many people giving him stuff - I’m jealous.
Morning. Slept till 8:30. [:D] Had Sonic Grand Opening and ribbon cutting 1 block from house but did not go. Sleep more important than a Yankee fast food. Didn’t want it located there anyway but previous board years ago zoned it wrong. The few “good ole boys” left on the board didn’t want to hurt the good ole man that owned it. Then it became a nightmare. Developer was a real AH. I just reminded them of my opposition with a big smile.
Got to go get some wire. Did not finish my project last night as ran out of the correct size of wire needed.
The Yanks must have stolen all of our rain. We were suppose to get lots. Nothing. Well, clouds and cold [had to close up greenhouse].
Dr. John, sent boss email this AM. Buddy in West Blocton said BPS was looking like it would open soon. Reminded him I wantged to do that Grand Opening.
Zeke, you retired military? Hats off to you. whne I was hiring, I always gave vets preference and especially retired military. Retired military knew how to work and come to work.
If trains were all I were looking for it wouldn’t be worth it. There are a number of things I look for, including the week’s shopping list that normal people would take to Kmart or Target. I always find something from that list. There are enough things I’m interested in that I always find enough to make it worth my while. Sometimes I’m only out for a couple of hours. On a good day I stay out until I run out of room in the car or money in the wallet.
I found a train last week, but it was an MPC-era 8602, I think. DC powered. They were asking $95 for it. Sorry, I already had the very set they had, and I paid $10 for it last year including the original box. I did buy a box full of CTTs at that sale though. I already had a lot of them, but there were a bunch from the 1990s that I didn’t. So I was happy. Maybe some other sucker bought the train.
Well had the house remediated today… $845… not bad… now have a 6inch PVC smoke stack on the side of the house… told the wife if we were staying I would paint the side of the house to resemble a steam loco and the pipe as the smoke stack… she laughed and told me to go ahead and do it! We aren’t staying so she doesn’t care! LOL!
Wife is scouring EBay looking for faucets… guess I’m going to have some projects in the new house… LOL!
Anyone know how to install a whirpool tub? She wants this 2 person jacuzzi tub… [:-^] but I think it is just so she has room to splash around! [(-D]
