Jim,
I didn’t rewire the house, just replaced some switches and outlets. Still have the following rooms to do:
Family Room
Office
3 spare rooms
Kitchen
Garage
These 7 rooms represent over half the switches and outlets in the house. There are 10 outlets in the kitchen alone!
I am considering upgradeing the electrical service from 200 Amps to 400 Amps. I will need at least 100 Amps for the extra garage when it is built and they only go from 200 to 400, and the main house could certainly use an upgrade since the circuits are rather few for the number of rooms, and other equipment on them. I have to run a 20 Amp circuit to the garage for the Air Compressor and that will leave only 1 free breaker slot in the panel… don’t like that.
The house work will really slow down starting tomorrow as school starts back up for me for 6 weeks. Haven’t decided if I want to do one more class this year or put the last 4 off till next year…
I remember Jim telling us that, you were able to work in a Halle Berry coment.[:D] Good luck running for mayor, I’d vote for you if I lived in Rolesville. I think you are going to win.
I haven’t done too much lately. Went to a local salvage yard last Thursday. Guy told me on the phone that he had a 97 Probe GT with a sunroof. When I got there, I found out that it was a 97 SE with a sunroof, Only problem is that the sunroofs are completely different between the SE and GT. I pulled the sunvisors for only $5, and they cleaned up to like NOS. Makes me regret the worn set I previously bought on ebay for $52![banghead] I got caught in the heavy rain Thursday, but I kept digging through that car. Won a 397 coal loader last night. Hope everyone has a good day.
Brent, the odds are that you are barely using half of your current potential. I would put a small breaker box out in the garage and set it up as a service panel with a double 30 or 50 breaker in the main box. Look in the main box for your manufacturer and see if you can replace current single 15 or 20 amp breakers with duplex breakers (twin half-width breakers) to make more space. This is what I did. I used about 50 feet of 8-3 with grnd cable to connect my main panel to my subpanel. Just label the breaker in the main panel and write in the subpanel - “shut off in main panel”. The Home Depot wiring book shows how to do this. Then, you can put your 220’s in your subpanel.
Here is a great site for finding out about this stuff:
Back from jury duty. Didn’t get picked as all cases were settled out before a jury could take the case.
So now I’m off the rest of the day! Spent the last hour cleaning up the house. Hope to run some trains and continue cleaning and detailing my 2343s. I also want to photograph the K-Line Pacific I repainted and turned into a Boston & Maine loco.
Happy birthday, Thor, Mike, whatever name you use here…

Thor,[bday] I know it is tomorrow, but the way this thread goes, we may be several pages on and I won’t remember to say it again. Anyway, hope you have a good one. We are not quite to your number, but celebrate it about the same. A little subdude, but still nice to be recognized. My bride usually lets me order whatever I want and she gets it and holds it till my day. Think this next year will be a #773[swg]
Have a meeting with county commissioner and then a meeting with a rep. at outback. At least it will be a good meal. I usually don’t go out with Mfg.Reps, but don’t want to be rude either. This is all eating into my train time.
It got up to 95 today with 60% humidity, pork chops for supper. Going to Jesup, Georgia (a hour drive from Savannah) to go to the railfan platform there. Should be some good views. Hope everybody has a good night and good Tuesday. Thor, [bday]
Rich, the Jesup platform is inferior to the Folkston platform. The Folkston platform has viewings of up to 75+ trains a day [banghead], since to the north is the subdivision that goes to Waycross, the other track is called the Nahunta Sub, it come form Jacksonville, and it goes through Jesup and then Savannah. Jesup has a Juntion of trains from Folkston (Nahunta Sub), Waycross, and Savannah and theres a Amtrak Station there as well. Jesup has been known to have up to 40 trains a day. [:)]
Sounds like Georgia is a good place to watch trains.
Any way Amtrac comes down to Jacksonville FL then works its way west to Orlando, goes a few miles further west then goes south to Okeechobee FL and east to West Palm Beach FL then goes south to Miami FL, not sure of the exact route but that is pretty close to it. Amtrac was working on a deal about five years ago to use FEC(Florida East Coast) tracks from Jacksonville to Miami but didn’t get the needed money from the government to make that happen, FEC wanted to lease the right of way to Amtrac. FEC has not seen a regular passenger train in almost 43 years on their tracks, sometimes a passenger car behind the freight train but never a full passenger train since the strike of 1964 by passenger employees of FEC, due to low ridership and expenses FEC did away with passenger service in 1964 and has been mainly freight ever since.
