Typical train geek. And he’ll probably complain he didn’t get a wave from a train crew tomorrow…

OH MY LORD! This never stops, and im not a geek, i GARUNTEE. IT WAS A SIDE STATEMENT , and i always think of the crew first, that should be a given! You guys just sit around and attack people dont you. And where i railfan, i know the guys personally, i went out to lunch wth the train master and the conductor. I go into the depot whenever i please, because the know me . Take your smart A$$ comments somewhere else.
Alec
Just because you’ve run a train doesn’t make you an instant adult. When you post stuff like:
in reference to the locos involved, with a smily face, it seems pretty crass.
Do us a favor, and lay off of Ed. He merely called it exactly the same way I saw it. Ed’s been a member for a long time, and I personally value his professional opinion a great deal on this board. I know a great many other members share my opinion.
I mean really, what the heck did you expect; four people dead and you are talking about the locomotive? Had Ed and LC not have said something, I am sure there were about 12 others on here that were lined up to call you on that. I don’t think they’re the two that acted improperly.
Gabe
People make mistakes , and im sorry i said that, now will you guys lay off. Sorry Ed.And you guys are forgetting that i did post this here because i CARED.
Alec
I would like to know the reasons for both this head on collision and the KCS one once the investigation is done. I find it particularly odd that this would happen on a CTC mainline.
Are you talking about jackson Wisconsin or another Jackson
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI
LC
For those that want to know what the power was, i got it.(Not that that is our main concern.)
G86971-09 Northbound had IC 1013, IC 1006,BNSF 4563, BNSF 4808
M33491-08 Southbound had IC 1023, IC 1014…
Bye bye IC SD70’s
Alec
This is really concerning me. If this can happen on a CTC’d system in Mississippi, then it could potentially happen anywhere else maybe. I have friends who work for CN and one of them is an engineer who has a wife and a young boy.
Andrew,
None of it is failsafe…all it takes is one person missing one thing, and the chain of events can play out quicker than you can adjust for it…
Yes, it can happen anywhere, to any of us.
Its part of the job.
Ed
Hey Ed. Sorry for getting mad at you, and i realized my mistake.
Alec
Thats too bad 2 BNSF DASH9s had to go through a big accident that they shouldn’t have had anything to do with.[:(!]
We cannot be lulled into a false sense of security, depending on technology to keep us safe. In the end WE are responsible for our safety and the safety of our coworkers. Professional railroaders must remain ever vigilent. Let the deaths of our bretheren serve a higher purpose.
HAVE A SAFE DAY
Randy
Sounds like someone was asleep at the switch that routed 2 trains going in different directions onto the same track. My regrets to the families of the crew members involved in the accident. [:(]

Did one of the news stories say the accident happened just south of Anding ? That would mean the southbound crew would have travelled 190 miles from Memphis and at 4:15 am they should have stopped at Anding, either on the main or in the siding. They may have gone through a red signal.
Thats what might have happened, fatigue is a big issue. Or it could have been a code failure.

Randy (and Ed!) – you are so, so right. Thank you!
Are the IC units repairable out of curiousity?
I doubt that CN would retire these 3 engines engines but you never know.I hope not because 1023 is the only SD70 engine I havn’t got a picture of.
I saw 1014 on July 2nd on M337 on the Freeport Sub along with 1015.
