I’m looking for information on a paint color for a 1950’s era CNJ Steel Caboose. In 1987, Alan Mende wrote a great detailed piece on detailing a Lif-Like kit. In it he recommended an Accupaint #8 Vermillion based on a color slide of a prototype showing a bright red. Can anyone recommend a prrotypically accurate color that’s not as if the car just came out of the paint shop?

Between the fading of the prototype and the unnatural lighting of the train room, wouldn’t an “accurate” color be hard to recommend?
