Coburn 35 : Tell me about the Alco's

I was in Duluth last week, visited the museum, and rode the LSSR train for the 5th time! As the train backs out of the station, there are 2 very worn out RS-3’s on a siding to the east. What’s going on with them? Also, do any other trains besides LSSR excursion runs use that track by the shore going north toward Two Harbors? We always stay at the Edgewater, but have never seen any other train on the track.

Ok ,Murphy, First off, Its the NSSR. Those ALCO’s you see are owned by the DSSA and were purchased just to gain a set of roller bearing trucks for the divisions other RS-1, already at the museum. One will be shipped off for use elswhere and the other will be scrapped. No other trains usually run on the line, but the NSSR offers at least 10 differnet trains to ride on.
You should have come on Friday, I coulda shown you around.

I saw the RS-1 inside. Do you mean it’s in running condition? We really love the museum. I wi***here was more info written about all the equipment outside the main building. Even a handwritten page from a volunteer would be something. For example, the is also an ALCO (or F-M ?) switcher outside, what’s the scoop on that? Who or what is DSSA? We were there on Tuesday, and had a good time as always.

Correct you are.
As for the ALCO switcher, look for the post ALCO a few pages page. It will tell you all you need to know.
Me and my friend might also start putting more info up.
