Codar control system

So I bought a guys trains yesterday who has been storing them since 1973. at least the newspaper in the car boxes was from then. Included was a Codar control system which has main speed, shunt speed, five position brake switch, current reversing switch and buttons for horn and whistle. Now I have been in HO since 1961 and never heard of this control system before. Doubt I will use this since I use DCC but any info out there or anybody who wants it? Not selling it but will give it away if somebody wants or needs it

I’d love to have it just to see how it works internally and how it ‘codes’ things.

Isn’t it these?

It does not “code” anything, it is just a typical transistor throttle of that era.

Looks like CODAR was the name of a radio manufacturer in Sussex (Britain) and they ‘branched out’ into the field of model-train control.

However, if the system resembles this:

it might still be interesting to see how the different features have been implemented. In particular, how is the audio for the ‘bell’ and ‘horn’ produced?

the one pictured in MR is the one I got Saturday. The guy sold me 80 Athearn freight cars with kadee couplers, five full length passenger cars and 20 unused Shinohara turnouts new in boxes 5 each left and right #4 and 5 each #6 left and right for $275.00 so it won’t bother me to chuck the throttle. Thanks

If I recall, the bell and horn are layout based sounds that simply get hooked up to an under layout speaker.

That’s what I’d expect, tbh.
