Code 100 24/22" radius curved turnout

Any recommendations on a curved code 100 turnout? I saw a lot of Peco 60"/30" ones but I really need a 24"/22" one.

Thanks!

Shinohara #6 is a 24/20 but that is the closest they make.

I have used 2 on my current layout - I even tried to modify the 20 radius side out to 22 but it did not seem to change much.

Had Lay is about your only other choice!

I have done several of those and did not use any Fast-trak Jigs - just have to take your time in doing it!

I’ve got several of the small ones, which are about 18 and 22 inch. The large one, as you’ve found, is 30 and 60.

With only 2" difference in the radii of the two routes that is going to make a long turnout. You might need to hand build it. Closest I can think of is Walther’s (formerly Shinohara) small which is right at 24"/20"

As you may already know, curved turnouts are not typically exactly equivalent to the two radii overlaid on each other. There is some allowance for the frog, points, etc. So if you are hoping to drop this into an existing curve, it may not fit exactly.

There are very small radius curved turnouts available from European suppliers such as PIKO, Bemo, ROCO, and Trillig, in fact some with radii even smaller than you describe. These are not all Code 100 and the clearances through the frog can be a little different.

Knowing more about what you are trying to do might help others help you.

Thanks all. I found the Shinohara #6, but it is Code 83.

What I am trying to do: in my track plan, I have a staging yard connects to the main through a Y. Two limbs of the Y are 24" curves and one is relatively straight. On one of the 24" side, I am trying to place a turnout to take one track to an engine service facility.

Nothing is laid out yet, so everything will work as long as things are approximately 24/22" but I am trying to not get tighter than that … The engine facility will take 6-axle diesels.

Shinohara does list a code 100 curved turnout, but they’re on back oorder till Oct. Go to Walthers web site and search for curved turnouts. Walthers lists hobby shops they sent the items to and the dates. You can contact the shops to see if they have any. Peco makes them as well but these look like an 18" and 20" radius. Joe

As noted, Walthers has stocked these Shinohara turnouts in Code 100 as well, although they are out of stock now. You’d probably want to check with them to be sure that they really will be carried in the future (or plan to use the Code 83s and shim/file as necessary).

This may not fit perfectly smoothly into a 24" curve, so you’ll probably want whatever turnout you use on-hand before laying out the track. Note also that the path through he frog might effectively be a little tighter than a true 22" radius and it would be worth checking whatever turnout you choose with your most finicky 6-axle power before laying track.

Hi NP,

I reckon you could go on to the Peco site and check it out for code 100 templets and print out both the curved points. I got some Code 75’s a bit back, worked great.

pick.

Thanks. I called The Train Shop (Santa Clara, CA) and they did not have anything. I requested to order but then they asked to call back on Thursday.

Seems to mei should grab a Shinohara #6 code 83 before that goes put of stock as well, and contine the search.

NP. Sent you a private message regarding some of these turnouts.

I can’t speak about the Walthers/Shinohara Code 100 turnouts, but the #6 Code 83 turnouts are actually 24/18, not the advertised 24/20. But the radii are true throughout both routes. Also, I have 6-axle diesels that navigate the 24/18 turnouts, probably because the points are curved.

Their 28/24 turnout is actually 28/22, if the 28 can work for you…

P.S. That 6" differential is typical for all their Code 83 curved turnouts (at least it has been true for all of mine, both old and new as of a few months ago).

I just bought all my track at trainworld in new york. all track is shinohara code 100. they had tons of #6 rt and #6 lft in stock. got everything I needed in about 3 days but i’m only in penna. #6 left hand was about $30.00 there website is WWW.trainworld.com. give them a try. joe
