COFFEE POT #3, March 2010 for all to take a drink and chat. Welcome all posters. 4 yrs old and still going. Sweet ice tea too.

Aloha all from a grey and snow-flurrying Chicago where it is Casimir Pulaski Day so of course, the city schools and services are closed today. Love these bizarro holidays complete with paid-days-off. Of course everyone else has to work. Why is Buckeye always greeting our fellow HO modelers?

Doug … he was quite an American hero … read up on him after your post … this old geezer learned another important fact … and my wife thinks my brain is done for … LOL . Chatting with my buddy RT on the chat this afternoon … nursing a heck of a lousey cold … seems me and chief got it … those darn yankees must have flew over and spread it !!! [xx(] GERM WAREFARE !!

DOUG,

That’s where I go fishing for salmon in PULASKI, New York. Named after CASHMIR PULASKI.

He was quite the man, Wes, but his holiday was more in keeping when Chicago was the largest Polish city outside Warsaw. These days I can’t see the city affording it. Hope you feel better.

Navyjack - Three ways to handle worms in apples on your trees:

Eat them with your eyes shut --extra protein is good for you.

Cut each apple up into small pieces, removing the pieces of worm.

Or the best way is to spray the trees when in the bud stage.

Sunny and warm. Off to the Dr. I go. Slept good until 5:30 and Lucy jumped on me. Did the dog thing while wife was getting ready for work. Codeine makes me hungry so cooked breakfast. Then we all went back to sleep until 9 AM. Dr. called and said come in [as I expected]. No County Commissioners but will have to make Town Board. Legal thingy with lawyer so need to be there. Regular lawyer had 8 lb. boy so this fill in one is aware of “conditions”. Still neeed to be there. Chat later.

Chief, take care of yourself. Hope your cough is nothing serious. We need you here to fend off all the attacks from the Yankees.

Had a pretty quiet day yesterday. Went on a walk through of next door neighbors house which is up for sale. It is an old house built in 1912. It is as cute as a button. Looks like a doll house. They have it fixed up real nice and I’m sure someone will buy this place soon. Only down side on the place is two big avacado trees that need care and a big hedge around the front of the house that always needs cutting. My neighbor of 34 years who passed away recently used to like puttering around that place. It was perfect for him because he enjoyed it. That house was the only house on this street when built and was the farm house for an orange grove which surrounded the place. My garage was built from wood that came from a barn that was behind that place I am told but my place was not built until 1952. Still hoping for nice new neighbors. I’m sure going to miss the old ones.

Happy Pulaski Day Ya’ll From Temporarily Clearing Taxachusetts,

Got about 3 inches more of Slurpie overnight plus more sleet and rain. Coastal flooding now, at high tide, here on Cape Ann. High wind advisories continue and a 1 foot storm surge expected. Gloucester and Rockport MA. about 12 miles North of me, hit hard. Compost centers opening a month early for folks to properly dispose of downed trees and related debris. Snow melt and continued precipitation = flooding, bodies of water above flood stage, and dams/spillways giving way. Some downstream evacuations.

This stuff started up last week and by last Thursday we were getting a persistent monsoon, winds gusting to 60mph, and sustained 30+. Lost power for 22 hours, and I was lucky as many are still without power. Trees and power lines are not a good combo. NH crews and many from other locales and states still working 17 hour shifts to get the power back up. Some in my world here close to home in MA still without power, day 4.

So last Thursday evening (before I lost power)… a normal person listens to the warnings to stay off the roads if possible while this abnormal person decides a wake in Maine for a friend’s son must be attended. You should have seen the looks and the welcome I got…“You are an insane idiot, what are you doing here?” Was invited to stay the night up there but had the dog back at the ranch and had to make the return trip.

Interstate 95 mostly empty during the round trip, but those on the road were driving like idiots and not holding their lanes. Evasive maneuvers required loafing along in the right lane so as to only have to defend from the left and making sure speed was adjusted to keep cars away from me. Truckers were doing the same and provided interference out in front and de

Wow, Jack,adventure tres grande!

Wandered the South Loop at lunch looking for a used bookstore I just knew was there someplace. Climbed the Dearborn station clock tower when the security guard wasn’t looking. It sure is… smaller than I thought but great view.

Well jack glad your safe and sound after all your adventures. Aw why not a candle lite dinner with the dog [:D]

afternoon all well its been an interesting day started with no heat then about 10 it started back up by itself no problem since wondering if maybe city cut natural gas to this area for some reason early this am and then turned it back on. [%-)]

well will talk to you all later have a good day prayers out for all especially chief and his cold

Good Afternoon!

Get well Chief!! Take a shot of Brandy with lemon juice, at least you may feel better if nothing else.

Still slightly chilly down here in what should be sunny south Florida. The news on TV said it has been the coldest winter in about ten years for Florida, far as I know it has been the coldest winter in more than 15 years. In 1995 I worked at Wal-Mart in Stuart FL and it got down to the low 30’s overnight, now I am 50 miles farther south and got the same low temp for this year. Whoever has the cold weather cannon, please turn it off!

Car battery died in wife’s car over the weekend, $30.50 to replace it under warrenty at Wal-Mart. Had to go to the tire & battery department as battery was over three years old.

Waiting to hear about RV sale, the man said they would get with us on the third of March. Going to have yardsale end of month of March.

Also my email don’t work! Anybody hear about any up-date for Yahoo or Google? My problem is that I can’t locate where to sign in at, the sign in box moved.

Good afternoon everyone. Well, den is painted and all the furniture and taxidermy are in place. Son asked if a friend of his could come home from school for a few hours, so we have a visitor. The kid’s mother was my son’s teacher last year. Did a quick clean up as we have too many toys around. I am not making an issue of it or I will hear about having too many trains[:-^]

Chief, glad you were able to get in to see the doc. Hope you are on the mend real soon.
Jack, sorry you are getting hit with such weather. Glad you were able to turn the tides and drop in on the kids. Hope you get warm soon.

Was an interesting day. Went in for the one case. I am still on that diet, so the first thing I am greeted with in the doctor’s lounge…one of the interns had made brownie muffins, apple cake, and a caramel cake to thank us for our part in her education. (our rotation is quite popular for the medical students at Medical College of Georgia) Needless to say, I couldn’t have any of it.[|(] Then, one of the guys in our group was supposed to be back today to do a aortic aneurysm. The trip was a fly fishing trip to Chile…he is stuck there for maybe another week. Perhaps he can do some work while down there. He has often spoke of doing mission work.

I had better go, got plenty of honey dos to attack. Hope folks stay warm and toasty.
God Bless,
Dennis

At least your cooking would be truly appreciated and you wouldn’t be ignored when you talk. [swg]

Cloudy and high 30’s today. Good luck to all of you still in the clutches of wintery storms.

Navy Jack - those are pretty drastic tools for ridding apples of worms. You will surely get the worms, and, as a bonus, prune the trees at the same time! I had a couple of peach trees when I was living in Kentucky. Like Pat says, spray the trees while they are still buds.

Didn’t win the automated milk car, somebody else decided that they wanted it worse than I did. There will be others…

Work is still there, not much drastic happened while I was on vacation last week. Talking with one of the product engineers up at corporate today. Says that it looks like more new programs are about to be kicked off for us - potential good news for us.

All for now.

We are in the clouds but we’re are not picking up frost yet and the data is good, so we are open for business. Will undoubtedly close later due to frost.

Jack - what a story!! Glad you made it home safe and the wife too. I think if I was the power company convoy I would have done the CW McCall thing and “crash the gate at 98, let them truckers roll”.

laz - I agree w/ you on the closing ceremonies. It was an amazing olympics. Especially for the US team. And they seemed to cut the end early just to show some program, which of course, I didn’t watch anyway.

Chief - hope you are doing better. Rolesville needs you.

My friend and co-worker John just ordered a set of snowshoes for me from one of his surplus web sites. Always wanted to try it and I figured this would be the winter for sure. Thought about getting a pair of newer ones but they look cheesy and are fairly expensive. These are traditional but made w/ magnesium frames. Being surplus they were very reasonable too.

Lining up a second date BTW, could be a new personal best…wish me luck

Good Evening

Well 38 and brite sun melted some snow but there’s a lot more to go. Granny and I went to a funeral home this afternoon to say goodbye to one of our train friends. Stopped for an early supper then granny went to baby sit. Banilla and S J are ready for the thingy to pick us up.

S.J.

[:)]hey thanks guys, what kind of substance should i spray the trees with. and should they get follow up spraying? i do not mean to be ignorant of such things but i really do not know. i was thinking about buying a tank sprayer, you know one of them that you pump up? i know you use some type of oil, but i do not know which kind.

8ntruck iron is not intended for getting rid of apple worms

but probably would work…

pat thanks for the info. i value it as always…

“god bless all you guys” navyjack

Hi All !

Jay Leno will surely broadcast this one.

Fife - I forgot to ask about the meteor showers. Not sure what you were referring to, unless it was the cold winter. We are heading into a solar maximum though (sunspots).

Read an interesting article on Yahoo snubbing NBC for their ending of the closing ceremonies. “And now for something completely different…”

Evening. Work session went longer than expected. Those folks get to talking and it can drag on. I had to stop them on some items and tell them we needed to move on. The only drawback to informal type of meeting. I have never required [like some Mayors do] to raise their hands and I recognize them before speaking. I do think it makes meetings go a little longer but then I think it helps for us to come to an agreement in a easier way. We just talk things out. Some of the Towns near by have “knock down drag outs”. One is Wendell. Watch their Town Board meetings on TV and it is sometimes like Saturday night wrestling.

$186 in meds co-pays. State “Healthless” Plan. The Senator that over saw the Plan is continuously being suggested as having a “close feeeling” for NC Blue Cross and Blue Shield. They have made a big profit off of State employees. People are investigating since the Senator resigned for a big political appointment. HUUMMM One lady after Town Board said, “You think that is bad, wait until you have Obama Health Care.”

Do not have “pewmonia”. Also been orderd to rest. So I have only one meeting tomorrow and one Wednesday. [:-^] If my typing is a “little off”, its the codeine. [:O]

Popcorn and 11 PM news. BTW: suppose to snohio tomorrow night and Wednesday. Problem for the Yankee invasion. It is too warm to stick in Roseyville. We might get 1" on the grass but none on the highways as too warm at nights. Mom’s down east wil get a lot more and maybe up to several inches. Then they say it will be highs in the 50’s Friday and going up to 69 or 70 by Monday.

Sleep tight.
