COFFEE POT #8, for all to take a drink and chat. Welcome all posters. 4 yrs old and still going.

Good Evening

A humid day, around 80 I think. It’s raining now but no thunder YET. Had a busy day, hauled some file cabinets out of the church and gave to friends. No I did not steal from the church. They wanted them out. Never knew those things were so heavy. OK then some more cleaning in the train room and another spot looks better now. Not over yet, went out to Another steak house tonite with # 1 son and his wife. Fathers day dinner from them.

Kurt, how were things in my old home town, it’s changed a lot but boy the memories. I am full again so will skip banilla but it’s here for those who ride the thingy tonite. Maybe a cupcake or two still left as well…S.J.

Evenin’ All.

Good day at the museum, quite a few visitors especially school groups. Everything unpacked and put away or back on shelves for next adventure. Local tv station is doing a live remote broadcast next tuesday. Have to be there very early to get everything ready for a 7:30 am show. [sigh]

The better half is taking part in 24hr cancer walk tomorrow, got most of her munchie & meal supplies packed and ready to go. Slice tomatoes early in the morning for their burgers is the only thing left to prep, then finish packing the cooler and load it all in her car. After that I get to go to the all gauge train show & sale. [:D] [tup]

Later all, I’m pooped. [|)]

Evening All,

Our busy weekend is well under way. Our primary show this weekend is at the LA Fairgrounds, they are having a “Summer Fest”, consisting of a Boat Show, RV Show, Home & Garden Show, Computer Show, Travel Show, Pool & Spa Show, and Roadster Car Show. All for a single admission of $10. Expecting 20,000 people plus.

My schedule has been;

Thur: Prepare products for 2 different shows, and load vehicles. (Took all day)

Fri: Go to LA Fair Grounds, set up booth, work show till 7pm.

Sat: Take other car to different show in Chino Hills, set up, work show for 4 hrs, tear down. Then drive to LA Fair Grounds, work that show till 7pm. (Wife working that show with me.)

Sun: Work LA show from 10 to 6, then tear down and return. Probably get home about 8 or later. (Working that day solo, wife attending friends graduation party.

Mon: Put Shop back in order, consolidating all the inventory.

So far todays, event was dreadful, very few people on the grounds. Only sales were for vendors from the other shows. People that were off today, were mostly unemployed or retired. Not many of them looking for a new boat or RV. I did see a boat I would like, it was a dual engine, 65’ long, cigarette boat. Looked “MEAN” !! Typically the RV show, has mostly new vehicles from the larger diesel pushers, to 5th wheels. This weekend a huge amount of “Red Tag” bank repo’s being sold, or offered. One had a really cool 4-8-2 air-brushed along the side. The grounds area has a large G-scale outdoor layout, and its in operation this weekend, along with 4 or 5 bandstand areas, and even a peting area.

Hopefully the next couple of days will be of benefit, we will see.

Hope everyone has a great week end, and Good Father’s Day.

(Doug, Hope the All Gauge show is better than what it was when it was here! Wasn’t very impressive, don’t get your hopes up

Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ English. Raining. May just have to pack some brewskies and sit at the dock today…and that’s ok. [oX)] Wifey ordered me some sailing magazines for Father’s Day.

dbaker - Can only imagine the power plant in that 65-footer. And the fuel mileage! [:O]

Good Mornin’—

We got doused on by a middle of the night wake up call of a t’underin’ boomer ag’in. Had a lot of rain with this 'un . We’re still getting showers and monsoonal bits for the rest of today. The lake/pond that took over our back yard has grown big enough that I could throw a floating dock in it----[:-^]

DBAKER: Those Cigarettes be one amazing vessel—we had a buddy who had a 40’er that just was a little TOOO quick------and was a bit hard on the fuel–[:-,][:-^]

We’s going downtown to see a friend’s Art exhibit at an art gallery. Also see if’n one can’t snarfle one—as if we had the space----[swg][:P]

HU GYZ,

BIG NEWS here. A fellow teacher called and asked if I’d be interested on learning how to operate a steam engine. You betcha I do! He’s on the board of directors of the ASHLAND Pa. Commerence. I went up there yesterday and they put me to work on the little Vulcan Steamer. I am learning the duties of the fireman and hope to be operating the lokie by summers end. I will be doing this volenteer work one day a week on Tuesdays. It’s preetty cool. The trip out and back on a narrow gauge rail is only about a mile out and back. But still is a neat thing to learn. When I retire in 3 years who knows maybe have a job as Engineer? Here is an older video of the engine I am working on. Enjoy,

Stay frosty,

Good Morning

Way to go Laz, a full size toy to play with.

Sun is shining but just after dark last nite we had storms for several hours and it appears rain all nite. Over an inch in my coffee can rain gauge. My dining car chef is outside weeding the flower beds so I guess I missed the train. I used Preen out there and it helps but not completely. Enjoy your weekend.

S.J.

I agree—how’d you get to play wit’ them?[:P] I can’t seem to find any 'round here------

OK–maybe St Thomas ON but-----[sigh]

WOO HOO!!! LAZ

Can’t view video here at work but will tonight way to go laz

Morning all. Can’t catch up on the pot due to this dodgey internet connection. Although I’m thrilled for you, Laz! After sitting on the airplane on the ground for six hours, due to terrible weather, and another eight hours in the air, we finally made it to our anniversary destination, uh my conference site, in Honolulu. I am amazed I found this hotel in the dark. I am scouring the island for some sort of train things. I think there’s a sort of tour train on one of the remaining plantations. I may have to trade this for some sort of shopping for the bride…

Dbaker, hope your shows this week end are more productive. Cool weather ought to help for walking around at Fairground. I have a buddy working that outdoor railroad today. I think he spends half his life over there. He used to be in our Thursday night group but O gauge is too tame for him since the G gauge bug bit him. I’m still fooling around transferring pictures of my layout to the forums. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does’nt. I need lots of practice.

Ray

Doug, glad you made it to How are Ya. They have a train on Maui called the Kanapalli and Pacific. It is a steam powered narrow gauge. I think it runs out of Lahina. Our 50th anniversary is coming up this year too. Have thought about Hawaii even though we have been there before several times. It is always nice. Sounds like it’s a lot more expensive than my last visit. Looks like they are cutting the 7 day vacations to 4 or 5 days and charging more. We stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaihalini last time but I doubt if I could afford it now, let alone the big Sheraton Hotel in Wakiki. That’s my favorite place but it is outrageous now on price. What’s a good property that does’nt cost an arm and a leg. Don’t say Motel Six. I don’t think they have any over there. Have a very nice anniversay.

Ray

Hello All,

Finally a nice day up here in New England but the rain is coming back tonite, very unusual weather we have been having; cool and rainy. I hope everyone has a good Fathers Day tomorrow.

Good Afternoon to All,

Had some quiet time to myself this afternoon. Managed to take a little nap. Wife and SIL are off to nieces’ dance recital. Our son came home for the weekend to attend a wedding. Someone had to stay home and take care of the dog. [swg] I am enjoying the quiet.

I have to go out to buy a door prize for Monday’s training session and a Father’s day gift for my Dad. I will probably get some dinner while I am out. I may stop for some Chinese food. I may also go out to the layout after I get home if it is not too hot.

Weather here has been unpredictable. Rained hard all morning, then sun came out, then rained again after lunch, now the sun is shining. It;s about 80 degrees now, supposed to have more thunderstorms this evening.

Take care.

Mitch

Wow am I jealous. Hope you have a great time.

Mitch

More thunderstorms last night - what’s new!

Went to the annual automotive swap meet at the fairgrounds this morning. Not very big this year. Not surprising given today’s weather and the economic climate. Mowed the front lawn and finished just in time for more rain.

Neat gig Laz. Think you will enjoy yourself?[:D] That little steamer has an interesting exhaust beat. Sounds like the cylinders are about 90 degrees apart on the crank.

'Later.

Laz, that was a neat video. Thanks for sharing. You will have a lot of fun firing that bad boy. I had a chance to play with a small steam engine once years ago. It was standard gauge and burned wood. It was an 0-4-0T. The owner let me take the throttle a couple of times. We ran it an an unused spur track that the Santa Fe had used in earlier times to spot oil cars for smudge pots in the citrus groves around it. Another neat feature was that there was a winery on the line where we could stop and check out their tasting room and buy some stuff to go. Needless to say there were some happy trips on that little engine. It is still around somewhere. I saw it once in Sacramento, California at the Railfair they have every 10 years at the California State Railroad Museum. The original owner passed away and the engine has been through several owners since then. The guy I knew bought it from Mr. Chad O’Connor who was well known for rebuilding small steam engines. There was a video about Chad called “A steam Driven Man”. I think Mr. O’Connor built the two replicas of the Union Pacific 119 and the Central Pacific Jupiter that are used for the Transcontinental Railroad reinactments at Promontory Utah by the U.S. Park Service. Have fun,

Ray

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. Did a “Chief” today. Mowed most of the yard, walked to the YMCA, did weights, walked back home, took shower, went thru Honda plant tour (very long) with my dad, came home, took nap. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car this morning for breakfast. Already missing my Norwegian soccer friend. Beacon is lit. Quals for Iowa were rained out, lineup based on owner’s points. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening

Well it reached 86 today not a lot of joy there since June is almost gone already. I’ll take it though.

Ground was to wet for mowing so it turned into a goof off day again. Banilla is ready but will stay in the freezer till Brutus and the thingy arrive…S.J.

Evenin’

Got sunny this afternoon—we stayed at 22C but heat index shot up to 30C with the humidity at 85%. Lot drier now and 19C----

Had to go get sister whose car went PTOOF! out on the 401. Had someone tow car back to Woodstock so friend of mine could see what could be done----he pronounced it an “EX-Car—just like that ex-parakeet in Monty Python----”[:-^]
