Everyone has been waiting since 2019 for the return of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train, and the (video format) report/response is here. Written article to follow.
You’ve gotta watch this one folks, it’s GOOD! [:D]
Here is the written version:
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is coming to town, and it’s far from quiet in the hamlet of Port Henry, NY. With just under 2,000 residents, Port Henry is one of many small communities along the CP system. “It helps bring everybody together,” said Peter J., a firefighter with the Moriah Fire Department. The department provided crowd control and assistance for the Port Henry event, which had not occurred since 2019. Despite a two-year gap, Peter isn’t skeptical of the train’s future or its importance for Port Henry. “It’s a great event, and hopefully our kids and their future kids can get to see it too.”
The Holiday Train waits at the Overlook in Port Henry, stalling until its scheduled arrival time.
It’s nearly 4:30, but the crowd remains loose enough for me to spot a couple I can’t help but talk to. Herb and Lisa, sporting iconic Santa caps, have traveled from Wilmington simply to “See what it’s all about”. The Port Henry stop, in addition to attracting many locals, is an ideal place for residents of the Adirondacks to catch the train.
I agree completely. I found myself both smiling and tearing up while I watched. The train itself is about the most beautifully decorated holiday train I’ve ever seen; it must have taken many people many hours to accomplish, to say nothing of the corporate support, to make this happen. And all that money and effort just to delight people, especially kids, at Christmastime!
As usual, Harrison, it’s a first-class production in all respects; I’ve sent the link to several friends.
Great video.
They ended up a bit late to Plattsburgh this year. The 7 PM arrival ended up more like 7:20, as I recall.
They were doing their best when they left trying to make up some time. After watching it at the old depot in Chazy (I always head there after watching it arrive in Plattsburgh), I then headed to my favorite spot in Rouses Point on Fairbanks Road (Which is close to the Champlain Street/Route 11 underpass).
Every other year I’ve easily beat the train and had a few minutes to wait at this location, but this time the train beat me by about three minutes to my spot. At least I arrived to the bridge in time to watch it cross overhead into Rouses Point.
The Holiday Train passed through Chicago this morning. I saw it westbound on BRC near Belt Junction from my inbound ride to work on the Southwest Service.
My son Matt saw the Holiday train(1230 am) in Milan Michigan.(we had to work).Ns had its hands full with tresspassers and vandals.Another gentleman was trying to inform the public of where the train was at.But after all the rude comments he got he decided to stop.Nice video.
stay safe
