This has been mentioned in a couple of posts in other threads, but it deserves notice on its own.
Somewhere in the last couple of site revisions, the ‘Search the Community’ box on the right hand of the page has been brought back to functionality. It does not appear they have yet worked the bugs out of the additional controls – the date range selection does not work either if you type in the boxes or use the clunky calendar, and the newest/oldest display always reverts to newest first. If there is a way to distinguish posts in this forum from other trains.com forums, I haven’t been able to figure it out. But it is a start, and a good one, to seeing what has been done in the nowlong history of the forums. And I applaud the IT department for having done it for us.
Hello All,
Messaging function still not working for me.
Glad to hear there is progress with the forums.
Hope this helps.
Was that always there? I guess I never scrolled down, but it would be a useful function if it worked.
I remember it being there and working ‘many years ago’, although I don’t remember how precise the format you typed the date in had to be. The little popup calendar widget (and the one they use is not as bad as many I’ve seen, which don’t allow direct selection of the year without some mystery-meat clicking) is a way to get around any format problems, but they should get rid of direct typing into the date windows if they force that. There has to be a routine that converts the selection code to match the date format in the older posts, which may have changed with software revision … which would require more complex logic to pull up and assemble the list of included posts. Hopefully that is in ‘architecture design’ to be implemented now that we have the base function working again.
