Commuter Rail in Tijuana, Mexico

I’ve heard about a start-up commuter rail line on the SD&AE line in Baja, running between the Tijuana station, very close to the Interstate 5 border crossing, and Tecate, about 50 miles to the east. There was supposed to be a pre-opening excursion as a fund raiser for a Tijuana charity, but it was cancelled at the last minute. Anyone have any details or ridden it yet?

I haven’t heard anything. The ex Metra commuter cars for the service are still stored out at Jacumba. I took this picture a few weeks back.

Hey John, what do you live in Deluz or something? If yes, is that the Deluz in the hills of Temecula?

Chad if you did see those cars, does that mean that they really are going to have a commuter train in TJ? I haven’t heard a thing about this. Is there a website that I can learn about this commuter train?

Hey Zak, Those cars have been sitting there as long as I have lived here (almost 2 years). Where I took that from is as close as I could get without tresspasing. I don’t know of any websites. when I discovered them I asked about them here on the forum. I was told they were for a future commuter service to Tecate. That’s the last I heard about it till this thread.

I was just looking at Jacumba on Google Earth, and boy is that a small town. What is out there? I’ve never need out there, is it a small train town? It looks like they have more railroad cars out there. Do you have anymore pictures?

I have never gone into Jacumba proper (if I did I didn’t know it) At the interstate there is a couple gas stations. To get that shot I had to navagate a few roads that were barely more the ruts. Those commuter cars and some hoppers were the only cars I saw.

I’ve been thru Jacumba, lets just say that the guy who had a hand painted sign on a 4x8 plywood sheet out in front of his house that said “Dogpatch USA” said it all.

Its very very rural…entirely agriculture, ranching… or meth labs.

The train museum and the Indian casinop off US 8 are about the only thing down there.

I saw this and thought that maybe they are starting their own museum.
