Yesterday I saw a Conrail GP working a siding along I-95 in Chester PA. IT looked like a fresh and very clean paint job. There were hoppers along side it preventing me from seeing the fans etc.
Most of Conrail’s locomotives are still in service on NS and CSX, I’m still seeing Conrail paint jobs on both roads here in Norfolk and Portsmouth. When Conrail was split, NS and CSX created “Conrail Shared Assets”, which are areas where they jointly own and operate the former Conrail lines. New Jersey has the majority of these areas. I think that the locomotives used in the CSA’s are kept in Conrail’s paint scheme, I guess they didn’t want all the leftover blue paint to go to waste.
